  1. Apparently, Theo sees Lowell as a "core" player and intends to resign him to a 3-4 year deal. That's per FOX on the game tonight. Obviously, ARod being available may change their thought process, but that has been their stance on Lowell thus far. Lowel is a product of the lineup. He's 33 and his numbers scream regression to the mean. Boston could do a lot worse, but they have the resources to take on A-Rod and let Lowell sign a fat contract elsewhere.
  2. I wonder if the Cubs could or would shop Aramis if they get ARod. They could probably get a good haul in return. Oh, the possiblities. I haven't been this excited since Nomar.
  3. Boston is a real likelihood, IMO. They'd be like a video game team. Who could pay for him? Both LA teams Boston Cubs Mets Maybe the White Sox (K. Williams negotiating with Boras would be great) Thats about it.
  4. Bad timing yes, but not out of the realm of possibility. A-Rod's contract would have to be seen as an asset. The question is how much of it can a club insure. If they can insure a good portion of his contract its more like buying a competitior than incurring debt. The problem is that the Cubs will likely sellout with or without A-Rod.
  5. I know some Yankee fans that are approaching the ledge right now. First A-Rod, now this. Girardi might win in NY, but if they do it will be inspite of him not becuase of him.
  6. The offseason just got a little more interesting. Sign A-Rod, see if he can play RF or SS. That's it. CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!
  7. I don't think they are lowering it, just leveling it out. The story said that they are removing 14 inches of material, installing a drainage system, then adding 14 inches of material. yea, but where does it drain to? Have you thought about that? Into a 60,000 gallon reservoir and into the municipal system. They should use the reservoir to water the grass. I imagine it will be mostly empty most of the time though. It's kind of like having a dry well drainage system.
  8. It really is. For a brief period of time during my undergrad days I thought about going into landscape engineering, but unless you have deep pockets to begin with it's real hard to make any money.
  9. Ronny is tearing it up. I really hope Lou lets him settle into SS, but I know that won't happen. I also hope he has matured a lot since 2006. I think I can remember Bruce saying something about Ronny loving the night life.
  10. I think Wyatt is clearly the best defender the Cubs took. If Vitters is half as good as the hype he should be ready to play in Chicago inside of three years.
  11. The Suntimes article is pretty damning to Dusty. What a character. It's like he says stuff and expects people to suddenly lose their memory or something.
  12. What, you mean it might have had something to do that they only had three players that deserved a spot on a major league roster? He definately had some craptastic players. 1996 Cubs
  13. Only if he promises to make other parts of his body bleed when he pitches.
  14. It's apples and oranges. Baseball can never and will never have the interest of a 1 game winner-take-all format unless they adpot that format. I don't know what possible long term benefit having the first two games at a neutral site would have on a series, especially a 9 game series. The only likely one I could see is short term profit for the business in the host city. I don't know why anyone would expect Superbowl level of excitement for one game in a series, unless it was a game 7 (or 9). In theory I'd have no problem with a 9 game series but I suspect that ratings would plumet even further for the first two games (after the newness of the format wore off).
  15. ugh this is all wrong Karen>Kelly>>Pam>>Jan>>>>Angela i really like kelly She'd be crazy in the sac.
  16. CM knows baseball like I know string theory.
  17. Dude, where do u get this stuff "The Matsuis haven't"....uhhhhh, the Matsuis were extremely productive this year, hideki has been great since he came over, and Kaz had a very good year too, thats just a stupid statement and its obvious that you just didnt look at the numbers before posting this. Kaz outhit Iguchi this year. You don' really think that Iguchi and Johjima were more productive that Hideki Matsui, do you? Come on, if your going to make bold statements don't contradict them with bad info. He said they were the exception. Reading is fundamental. Ummm... my bad.

  19. With tears almost filling his eyes The Genius told all us haters to enjoy it while we can. http://www.southbendtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071021/SPORTS13/710210332/1023/SPORTS13 I will genius, I will. Go Navy!
  20. I guess my point is that the Cubs ought to fix their problems drafting and developing American talent as well as focusing on foreign shores. For the time being, the impact of Latin players has been far greater than Japanese or Korean. Hopefully that's what Tim Wilken and his staff are here for and acquiring American talent.I hope so too. But then again perhaps their two best position prospects; Colvin and Vitters are just as hack happy as everyone else and haven't seemed to change once they got to the minors. Hendry kind of downplayed the roll of player development, when, IMO that is the Cubs real downfall. I don't buy the argument that a player cannot learn plate discipline. How can you tell how how hack-happy Vitters is? I'm going by what I've read here (from scout's analysis) and his stats in a very limited number of ABs. Pardon me for not trusting the Cubs to develop any patience with Vitters. I guess time will tell. http://minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=33742

  22. ESPN has just announced it's changing its call letters to YES2. I hope they hire Girardi. It will be high comedy. The first time he sac bunts in the second inning the city of NY will explode.
  23. Does anyone know if the players get paid extra for playing in the Winter and Fall leagues or is it an obligation for the minor leaguers?
  24. What I'd really like to know is if Bruce thinks the Cubs will have the financial wearwithall to increase payroll enough that the Cubs might be able to get/trade for a high dollar CF, RF, or SS. It will be an intersting offseason with the Yankees in flux and the Cubs up for sale.
