  1. Have you been talking to Ryan or Mike? Cause the Bayou Basher isn't a Cub any longer. Huh? Who isn't a Cub? Todd Walker. I see. That's what was strange about it. When I searched for Bayou Basher, the first thing that popped up was an article or two about Mike Fontenot, and the second reference to Bayou Basher was an article or two about Ryan Theriot. Nowhere on the first two pages of results is a reference to Todd Walker as the Bayou Basher. Since the term seemed to reference two current Cubs, it didn't make sense that he said the Basher was not a Cub anymore without some type of knowledge. Bayou Basher is what Chip called Walker during the infamous broadcasters vs. players war of 2004. Walker apparently complained that Chip and Stone didn't give players nicknames like the Hawk so Chip and Stone came up with one inane nickname after another for an entire broadcast. It was an inside joke. I think they also called Walker "The Louisiana Lumberjack" at one point.

  3. Haltz, you're making way, way, way, way too much too much of a stretch here with the defense and park factors. Listen to UK, he knows what he's talking about. Although I don't really buy park factors as a useful metric for much of anything outside of Colorado and San Diego, Wrigley was a much better hitting environment than Miller in 2007. Miller pretty much played neutral while Wrigley was a hitter's paradise, so to speak. The Cubs had 94 errors while the Brewers had 109. The difference in FP was a miniscule .002.
  4. wrong. No, you're wrong. He's lucky he played in the era of the all glove, no hit SS. He's probably one of the most overrated players of all time. No. If anything, he's underrated now due to contemporary emphasis on SS offense. In what way is he underrated? What about that line is HOF worthy? .262 .337 .328 (2,460 hits) his .978 FP doesn't strike me as all that spectacular. He played with a lot of flash in an era of non-flashy players. you should know better than to use fielding percentage. come on. average career hitter (and actually a productive hitter for his position when he was in his early to mid 30's) + what amounts to AMAZING defense at one of the most important defensive positions in baseball, i have no problem with ozzie being a hall of famer. Find a defensive metric that is acceptable. FP for a SS is, in my opinion, more valid than for other positions. Whatever, he's in so the point is moot.
  5. This thread is the Jason Voorhees of NSBB. It will never die.

  7. I'm pretty sure It means you have to bet 10 bucks to make 11. If you bet 5 bucks you win $5.50
  8. I love that line. But what does it mean? @$19 a year if I'm not mistaken  It was great last year watching teams consistently run on Soriano, and run themselves out of big innings. That probably had more to do with his 6 errors .978 fielding % and terrible routs to the ball. But he dose have an arm. How many games it changed though remains to be seen. Good fielders don't normally have a lot of assists because people don't run on them.
  9. You keep the odds made at the time of the bet.

  12. Did the Cubs make a move over the weekend that I am not aware of? There's no reason to expected increased production from SS. Theriot is going to play most of the time and more likely than not continue to perform at the low level he, and the rest of the SS crew, performed at in 2007. I agree, but I think if Theriot continues to put up those numbers the Cubs will almost have to make a trade at some point. I have hope for Cedeno but not a lot of confidence.
  13. If I were going to place money on a "long shot" of sorts I'd bet the NY Mets. Put the money down now and if they get Santana they should win the NL. EDIT: The Diamondbacks wouldn't be a bad long shot bet either.
  14. Rationalization is a wonderful thing. Fact is, you cannot swap and statistical analysis doesn't work that way. I think you should have stopped at "the Brewer's defense sucked last year and likely cost them games. If they play better defense and the pitching doesn't regress they should be better". I can buy that.
  15. Not if Marshall and Sean G. are still on the team.
  16. But the trees only grow in Texas and Southern California.
  17. I think people are marvelling at the length more than complaining. That's what she said.
  18. Why is anyone starting a sentence with according to the guys at OH? They have 0 credibility. They've now been wrong on this trade in every way it can possibly be wrong.
  19. I've been tending to some family-illness issues, but here are a few thoughts some info on what I've been told: First, Hendry doesn't "float" rumors and neither does MacPhail. I can see MacPhail hating how this is playing out, and I'm sure he'll put it on his to-do list to stop leaks like this. Second, the Orioles might be asking for Hill and Pie and whomever, but they will not get them. Hendry absolutely will not trade them for Roberts. Period. A package that includes parts of Gallagher, Marshall and/or Cedeno is what the Cubs have in mind. Third, from what I've been told today and earlier this week, nothing is imminent. The Cubs would like Roberts, but if the O's decide to move him, it's 50-50 the Cubs will get him. Fourth, the writer Peter Schmuck was mentioned above. This guy is good. He's a former Orioles beat writer who is very plugged in there. If he says it's 70 percent Roberts won't be moved, I'd tend to go with that. But that doesn't mean things won't change. Fifth, I'm told MacPhail's first order of business will be trade Bedard (no, the Cubs are not in on this). Once that get settled, then he'll turn his attention to Roberts. Thanks Bruce! Any ideas on what their plan is if Marquis and/or Dempster "crap the bed" so to speak? I hop all is well with your family.
  20. There are actually several valid arguments to the contrary. I'd like to read even one.
  21. But it's buoyed by ~20 pages of angst-filled posts about the length of the thread. So that makes it all better. I'll do my part with this! Anyway, even if Roberts gets traded I still won't believe that any of those people had inside information.
  22. "How do you half-expect something?" the same way you have "half a mind" to do something I think it is closer to doing something half-assed. Like starting Samardzija if he isn't ready.
  23. Care to elaborate? We getting one of the best leadoff men in baseball Not a position on a baseball field. Every team gets one and they are voted on by the fans. How many wins is that good for? All three of those players are arguably better than those who are starting in front of them: Cedeno>Theriot Marshall>Marquis Gallagher>Dempster That's not to say I'm dead set against this deal but seriously, free your mind and your body will follow.
  24. How could the truth be terrible? I don't agree. For me the entertainment is what is important. Let's face it baseball can be very boring at times. Harry, like Ron is not the best person to ever give insightful commentary, but each of them were/are great entertainers in their own way.
