  1. wrong. No, you're wrong. He's lucky he played in the era of the all glove, no hit SS. He's probably one of the most overrated players of all time.
  2. Did the Cubs make a move over the weekend that I am not aware of? There's no reason to expected increased production from SS. Theriot is going to play most of the time and more likely than not continue to perform at the low level he, and the rest of the SS crew, performed at in 2007. I agree, but I think if Theriot continues to put up those numbers the Cubs will almost have to make a trade at some point. I have hope for Cedeno but not a lot of confidence.
  3. If I were going to place money on a "long shot" of sorts I'd bet the NY Mets. Put the money down now and if they get Santana they should win the NL. EDIT: The Diamondbacks wouldn't be a bad long shot bet either.
  4. Rationalization is a wonderful thing. Fact is, you cannot swap and statistical analysis doesn't work that way. I think you should have stopped at "the Brewer's defense sucked last year and likely cost them games. If they play better defense and the pitching doesn't regress they should be better". I can buy that.
  5. Not if Marshall and Sean G. are still on the team.
  6. But the trees only grow in Texas and Southern California.
  7. I think people are marvelling at the length more than complaining. That's what she said.
  8. Why is anyone starting a sentence with according to the guys at OH? They have 0 credibility. They've now been wrong on this trade in every way it can possibly be wrong.
  9. I've been tending to some family-illness issues, but here are a few thoughts some info on what I've been told: First, Hendry doesn't "float" rumors and neither does MacPhail. I can see MacPhail hating how this is playing out, and I'm sure he'll put it on his to-do list to stop leaks like this. Second, the Orioles might be asking for Hill and Pie and whomever, but they will not get them. Hendry absolutely will not trade them for Roberts. Period. A package that includes parts of Gallagher, Marshall and/or Cedeno is what the Cubs have in mind. Third, from what I've been told today and earlier this week, nothing is imminent. The Cubs would like Roberts, but if the O's decide to move him, it's 50-50 the Cubs will get him. Fourth, the writer Peter Schmuck was mentioned above. This guy is good. He's a former Orioles beat writer who is very plugged in there. If he says it's 70 percent Roberts won't be moved, I'd tend to go with that. But that doesn't mean things won't change. Fifth, I'm told MacPhail's first order of business will be trade Bedard (no, the Cubs are not in on this). Once that get settled, then he'll turn his attention to Roberts. Thanks Bruce! Any ideas on what their plan is if Marquis and/or Dempster "crap the bed" so to speak? I hop all is well with your family.
  10. There are actually several valid arguments to the contrary. I'd like to read even one.
  11. But it's buoyed by ~20 pages of angst-filled posts about the length of the thread. So that makes it all better. I'll do my part with this! Anyway, even if Roberts gets traded I still won't believe that any of those people had inside information.
  12. "How do you half-expect something?" the same way you have "half a mind" to do something I think it is closer to doing something half-assed. Like starting Samardzija if he isn't ready.
  13. Care to elaborate? We getting one of the best leadoff men in baseball Not a position on a baseball field. Every team gets one and they are voted on by the fans. How many wins is that good for? All three of those players are arguably better than those who are starting in front of them: Cedeno>Theriot Marshall>Marquis Gallagher>Dempster That's not to say I'm dead set against this deal but seriously, free your mind and your body will follow.
  14. How could the truth be terrible? I don't agree. For me the entertainment is what is important. Let's face it baseball can be very boring at times. Harry, like Ron is not the best person to ever give insightful commentary, but each of them were/are great entertainers in their own way.
  15. If'n he's backing up Theriot how good can he possibly be? I think DeRosa came up as a SS but hasn't played SS much at all since 2001. That was a long time ago. My big fear is that the pitching won't hold up. It's like whack-a-mole with Hendry. He never plans for the worst case.
  16. I think it makes a difference when they've shown to be credible sources of information before. Credible? They called the Tejada trade before it was done but after it was in every paper this side of the Weekly World News. I think some of you are having your chain yanked.
  17. That old fart in the middle is a dick in person. He's at all the OSU games and does some stupid dance that everyone cheers.
  18. Is this thing actually happening? If it does, who is going to be the backup SS? Does it kill the depth at the starter position? Wouldn't Theriot become the backup? No. I agree with the ugh sentiment.
  19. Obama's going to take all the indie's and MIt wins. A win for wooden people all over the world!
  20. Clemens should take all his money and just fade away. If I could talk to him i'd tell him to drop the shovel. He's only digging a deeper grave for himself.
  21. He spent a fair amount of time at the top of the order when Soriano was out so I don't buy your argument about hitting in front of Lee as the main cause. And his .266 BA tells the rest of the story. More than half of his at bats came hitting 2nd. About 80% of his at bats came hitting 1st or 2nd. He doesn't strike out that much, and if he's the terrible hitter that most people on here think he is, doesn't it make sense that pitchers would throw him pitches that he'll hit on the ground? I'm not saying anything about Theriot's baseball ability, other than commenting on his eye at the plate. I've watched enough games (and I'm sure you have too) to know that Theriot doesn't swing at crap. As such, the fact that his P/PA is so bad probably has something to do with the fact that he's seeing a lot of strikes. I really don't like looking at P/PA anyways. To use a very simplistic example, a player who looks at three fastballs down the middle every time he steps into the box will be said to "have a better eye" than someone who swings at the first pitch and hits a double every time up there if you only look at his P/PA. This is an area where I think scouting/watching the game/whatever you want to call it easily trumps looking at statistics. It's not really worth debating, but if he has such a good eye he'd wait for a pitch that he could drive like Bellhorn use to do instead of swinging at anything in the zone (a bit of an over simplification).
