  1. Basball and soccer are weak link sports - the value of the team in terms of winning meaning that the good teams have the strongest "weak" links. Basketball is much different. The winning teams are strong link sports - the value of the team in terms of good teams are based on having a few of the best players. That's why a team like the Angles can have the two best players in the league and not win.
  2. This kinda makes the point. As a fan of a team you have to hope to be extremely fortunate with a draft pick, or you're at the whims of whatever a top player feels like doing for his next gig, sometimes both. For me at least it's difficult to be invested in a team that has so little autonomy relative to other sports in its ability to create a championship roster. I get that and mostly agree with it, at the same time it's the best league for its players. The challenge is for capital/management to build an environment where people want to stay and gravitate towards. I can see a situation in the near future where a team offers some small percentage of ownership to high-level influence players. N = 1 basketball is by far my son's favorite sport to watch on TV.
  3. So, who do we want from the Padres for Willson?
  4. This is the pick I’m most excited about. Seriously, he could be the steal of the draft if he can stick at his position.
  5. I think the payout in prospects is going to be more cost prohibitive than the actual dollar figures for Soto + Corbin for most teams. He’s a great player though.
  6. Great story, I wonder if it’s true.
  7. Great questions, I can't wait to see what everyone thinks. The thing that is most interesting to me is that by the looks of the draft they obviously are using some type of empirical basis for their decision-making with regard to pitching metrics and their confidence in developing pitching. Let's hope they one, have found the secret sauce and two, are able to bring it to market.
  8. When is the ETA for Drew Grey to pitch again? Mid season next year?
  9. With how horrible the year has been for the big club, it's been a pretty good year so far in the minors. The needle is definitely pointing in the right direction for the organization.
  10. They're going to convert him to a pitcher, for real.
  11. I do really like that they are drafting guys who are hard throwers.
  12. "If you think there’s a third weapon in there somewhere, he would be a second-rounder; if not, he’s in the big bucket of good college pitchers who project as relievers and fit in rounds 3-5." The future closer at 7.
  13. https://sports.yahoo.com/passaic-tech-baseball-star-nazier-184933597.html I'm assuming his name is pronounced mu-LAY?
  14. Was not a serious statement.
  15. The pessimist in me thinks Soto is going to go to the Cardinals.
  16. Well put. I give them credit for believing in their ability to develop pitching, but the jury is still out. What concerns me most is the relative value of the guys they passed on when making the picks.
  17. So they drafted middle of the rotation pitchers when they could have drafted middle-of-the-order hitters. This will either be an excellent draft for the Cubs or one people will talk about for a long time as a case in point of outsmarting oneself.
  18. It’s okay to just stop at “I don’t know anything about this stuff”. He's thrown 53 innings of college baseball and a TJ surgery already under his belt.
  19. Horton shouldn't be anywhere near slot, at least I'd hope. He's got another year of college eligibility left, so they don't have a lot of leverage.
  20. the Pelicans just had another no hitter, lol.
  21. He's got closer/back end of the bullpen written all over him. I don't know if that's what you want at 7.
  22. WTF. I don't know anything about this stuff, but this seems like an awful, awful, awful decision.
