  1. Saw a blurb in an article about Mervis in the AFL from some scouts. Said his defense was bad at times. Questioned his ability to hit a fastball. They said the pitching in the AFL was down. I know they know more than I do about baseball players and whatnot, but he obviously hit velocity in AA, AAA, and the AFL this year.
  2. UM/OSU - The game will be decided by how well Michigan can run the ball. If they can't run, they will lose by two touchdowns or more. They should hope for a bad-weather game.
  3. Bad defense on every play that possession.
  4. When does the show start? After Christmas?
  5. He's going to be their manager one day.
  6. 27 year old 2nd baseman who had a cup of coffee in the bigs last year? Ok baseball people, tell me why this is something to maybe get excited about. Seems like the kind of guy the Cubs already have several of. Basically .300 with a .370 OBP over his last 3 minor league seasons in AA and AAA, with his SLG being improving each year. Seems pretty damn redundant with McKinstry, Bote and Madrigal. I think Bote will be gone after today if he isn't already gone.

  8. there is a difference between learning how to win and knowing how to win. The former is an active process that can be objectively verified. The latter is a hypothetical construct and is an outcome measure of sorts. Learning how to win means not making the same mistakes, or trying something different in the same circumstance where you were unsuccessful in the past. Natural ability + good planning/practice + luck are also variables. So "learning how to win" just means getting better overall? Agreed. It has more face validity and sounds fancier.

  10. I'm not sure two to 3 mph is going to give him what he needs. I'd wager they are working on the consistency of the release point or some other mechanics to make sure he keeps the location consistent. His problem has been HRs and the HRs are coming from poorly located pitches up in the zone.
  11. College football needs to figure out a way for there to be two or three big regional games each week. I know a lot depends on what happens, but USC vs UCLA is the only game worth watching the entire day.
  12. Why do I feel like this is the same melody with different lyrics with the Ricketts? 2022 #1 hit: The time is not right to spend a lot of money. 2023 #1 hit: These guys want too many years Not a good way to start the offseason.
  13. Far be it from me to criticize the Ricketts for attempting to buy another business. However, I do question their commitment to the Cubs to winning baseball games. The Cubs are like the toy they are tired of playing with now and just want to see how much money they can extract from it for their next thing.
  14. I wouldn't mind losing a bunch of shootouts where the "future" guys all show out; then having the pick one before the packers and trading down to deny them the QB of their choice. Then they reach, overdraft a guy and get stuck in QB hell for ages. Don't they think they have their QB of the future right now, in Love?
  15. It would be so incredible if Michigan slows the game down enough to beat them in Columbus. There will be many tears and couch fires a plenty off of High street. My schadenfreude would be off the charts too.
  16. Ohio State is winning the national championship game if it is played today. It wouldn't be a close game either. OSU Georgia Michigan Everyone else. Not a single person who isn’t an Ohio State fan would agree with you. You clearly haven’t watched Georgia play if you truly believe that nonsense you posted. The SEC is down. Alabama has the best talent, but Saban is on cruise control at this point and his assistant coaches aren't of the same quality he use to attract. I don't think Tennessee has nearly enough talent to compete with either OSU or Michigan and the outcome would be the same as Georgia. I"m not an OSU fan in the least. They have the most talent at the most important positions of any team outside of Alabama. I wish they could play next week, but we shall see what happens. I don't think OSU or Georgia is going to lose before the national championship game.
  17. That is very Dusty Yes, his logic is very bad. He said he didn't want him bitching about playing time. 1) He's a better catcher than anyone you have 2) He's a better DH than anyone you have. Figure out a way to get him ABs. Also, they were asking for a back of the rotation pitcher who has 3 years of team control. I would have been pretty pissed at that outcome. Dusty is the poster boy for being in the right place at the right time. He's managed more star-quality players than any manager in the 21st centry.
  18. Let's get this horsefeathers started!
  19. 1. Georgia 2. Tennessee 3. LSU 4. Alabama Ohio State is winning the national championship game if it is played today. It wouldn't be a close game either. OSU Georgia Michigan Everyone else.
  20. It looks like the Bears practice in Bryant Park. Like a pick up game.
  21. Auburn fired Harsin, to the shock of no one. He had a "my way or the highway" demeanor, which Auburn said it wanted after their last coach. Auburn will now be paying 3 coaches who no longer coach for them and one who will be coaching. My wife works at one of the university satellite campuses and the craziness of the athletic program is mirrored in the administration. The place is a mess. It's unfortunate because there are a lot of good scholars working there.
  22. The defense, not so much.
  23. Fields had looked better each quarter
  24. Like a hot knife through soft butter.
