  1. I consider Morel in the mold of Zobrist. He's plenty valuable and should not be traded unless it's for a star-quality player. He can fill multiple positions adequately and he's likely to be league-average or maybe a little worse at the plate for all the positions. His value is hard to quantify.
  2. horsefeathers yea! I love it. Cohen blowing the lid off the poverty claims by these [expletive] owners. Also, I don’t think this will end well.
  3. For Derwood. https://theathletic.com/4018954/2022/12/20/ohio-state-buckeyes-football-fandom-perfection-terror/ Perfectly capture the lunatics in Columbus.
  4. I don't know or think I know more than you, but there is no reason to be happy with a Tucker Barnhart signing, so you shouldn't be happy with one. They do need another catcher and he will do. That's it. No reason to be happy about it. Contreras is clearly the better player but he's not in a cub uniform any longer for reasons that only Jed and his team understand. Hopefully, Aymia will show he's ready at some point this season, but I think the ship has sailed on him being a star-quality player.
  5. I agree. I'm a casual observer and don't get to watch a Bears game every week. Fields clearly improved from the last time I saw the Bears. He was mostly very impressive. However, he is inaccurate in the short passes that a good high school quarterback could make. It has to be a mental thing. I'm not sure if the receivers are where they are supposed to be or what, but it looks like he picks a spot and throws to the spot instead of where the receiver is positioned.
  6. Great example of Fields legs creating an easy touchdown for his arm.
  7. As I was watch the one and very likely only soccer game I will see for the next four years I was thinking the same thing.
  8. Not a good series after the INT.
  9. Fields is special.
  10. I will like it a lot if the Cubs nab Conforto and Mancini. That would make successful offseason, IMO obviously.
  11. It was Turner, Correra, Swanson for me. Going home with choice three is better than going home alone.
  12. I just saw that the Red Sox DFA'd Jeter Downs and they're a sneaky good fit for Madrigal. I wonder how close Madrigal for Houck gets you, considering they don't seem to have interest in making him a SP again and they certainly aren't relying on him for late innings given the addition of Jansen/Martin and his back surgery last fall. Yes please Houck, Luzardo…pulling a 95+ pre-FA SP candidate sure would be nice…AJ Puk’s working out for a shot to start this offseason…Matt Brash…Adrian Morejon, Ryan Weathers is 94…Someone Seriously, who the horsefeathers would want to trade for Nick Madrigal for anyone with any value to a major league team? I mean, I know we are grasping at straws but this is not even a straw. By this time next year he will be playing in Asia.
  13. The price of poker just went up, gentleman.
  14. Scarecrow and Mrs. King.
  15. Running the ball and defense is winning games in the NFL rn I would say you are embarrassing yourself but I don't think that is possible.
  16. He's washed.
  17. These guys are supposed to be really smart. Hoyer went to a highfalutin college in CT. You cannot say something is an "overpay" if that is what passes for a free market is paying. Kyle said this reminded him of the 1990s Cubs. But really it's the same story for most of the history of the Cubs in our lifetime.
  18. I’m a glutton for punishment. I didn’t watch many games. But I listened to almost every game on my phone but not the entire game for about 30%. I love baseball and can’t quit the Cubs, no matter what.
  19. That's exactly correct. The Ricketts have 24/7 assets around Wrigley that generate thousands of dollars per day every day. Even if Correrra is a total bust it would hardly cripple the team financially.
  20. Plan B -Count da money and continue to buy land around Wrigley to soak the out of towners. The Ricketts have a gold mine at Clark and Addison. It is very clear that winning baseball games is not a priority.
  21. They have a pretty good SS right now. They have a good system with lots of prospects just below the horizon. Now was the perfect time to sign someone like Correra. They signed Belligner who is a placeholder, flip candidate. They have essentially the same team as last year. They needed to sign a TOR pitcher and a star quality position player. I expect that they will be around .500 with a chance to sneak into the playoffs with an overpay or two at the trade deadline. They need a 2nd baseman, a 1st baseman, and most importantly a catcher. They probably also need a 3rd baseman too. I'm still hung up on why they let Contreras go.
  22. They could easily take that kind of hit if they needed to; other big market teams do it. People bitched and moaned about Heyward's contract for the past 6 years, so I guess....those people? And another long-term dud contract just gives Hoyer/Ricketts another excuse never to spend money again You can't have it both ways.
  23. Jed will come in third place for the most wins with the lowest payroll again this year. I wonder if Tommy Boy gives him a special trophy at the end of each year while he lays Huel-style on his mound of money.
  24. I don’t know, goony. The expectations were set by Crane. They’re going to have a lot of questions to answer if the don’t make a significant signing. It’s very out of character for them. I suppose it depends on if Jed doesn’t mind taking the heat from the media as long as he knows his job is safe because he didn’t spend unintelligently. “Spending intelligently” is going to follow him everywhere he goes.
  25. They won’t fire him the offseason. But I have to think he has to be on the hot seat unless he swings a trade for Tatis or something. If he doesn’t get either guy I may have to buy a cubs convention ticket just to see the atmosphere Jed HAS to be pissed at Crane for putting him in the hole by saying all that horsefeathers just before the winter meetings. But anything Crane says comes directly from Tommy Boy Ricketts. I don't imagine there is a lot of trust right now from the baseball opps people.
