  1. 120 is generally considered a red flag anywhere. You appear to be in the same mindset of many Cub fans in 2003. Anything to get to the playoffs. No big deal to go 120, those guys are horses and will be fine. To be fair to Yost, Sheets will be a Ranger and CC a Yankee next year.
  2. Our 4 game lead makes me feel pretty good. I think you're the one who's insecure seeing that you feel the need to rebut our comments here.
  3. Well to his credit A) They are only 3 games up on a playoff spot B) The score was 1-0 C) The bullpen pitched a lot of innings yesterday D) It's September E) Sheets only threw 54 pitches in his last start. I am a big fan of watching PCs, but sometimes you guys take it too far. There are some instances where it is perfectly acceptable for your pitcher to throw 120 pitches, and this is one of them. You should also consider that this is Ben "Walking Injury" Sheets. Tonight was his 13th win of the season, and it set a new career high, saying much about his durability. But I in general agree with your point. 120 pitches is rarely that damaging. Beyond there, however, is the danger zone.
  4. This is a pretty big time performance from Jason Marquis considering what's transpired this week.
  5. Knowing us, this explosion will be followed by 4 more games of 2 run offensive output.
  6. These are the games where Soriano earns his money. Thank God.
  7. "Making" the playoffs is not the ultimate goal. My concern is not about making the playoffs, because we will. My concern is with how crappy they're playing in getting there the last 3 weeks. This is pitiful. At this rate, we're going to get swept out of the playoffs just like last year, after this great season. Great 5 months.
  8. Our offense is not going to get restarted against a stupid junkballer like Bronson Arroyo. This sucks.
  9. Shawn Estes in September when it matters to the Cubs is money. That CG shutout against the Reds in '03 was the most improbably clutch performance I have ever witnessed.
  10. Yeah, I hear ya...even with a loss, the Cubs are still 31 games over 500, firmly in first place with the best record in the NL...Definite panic time. How, exactly, does the situation you describe differ from 1969? There's a wild card now... which makes a huge difference Ooooo okay so we have a safety valve that will let us get swept by the Mets instead of the Dbacks. I see. lol whatever you say man.. feel free to keep flying off the handle. how have you ever survived a 162 game season? At least I'm won't be devastated when it actually happens. Prepare for the worst.

  13. f him and his 2 for 5 performance And his bases loaded DP in the 8th.
  14. You know what that last swing reminded me of, the way he lunged for the ball? Ronny Cedeno.
  15. At least we have Koyie Hill and his 1.5 hands to catch. Sorry that was low.
  16. That was incredibly anti-climactic.
  17. It's pretty wild that the Diamondbacks pitching staff sans Webb is 10 games under .500 yet that team is still tied for first.
  18. The likelihood is that these announcers are broadcasting from a studio in New York. Pretty much every announcing duo I've heard - save for basketball, gymnastics and swimming - have been. I doubt this would be an exception. I have heard them say several times in other events that they are not on the site. I think it is accepted that it's fine if you aren't there as long as you tell the audience. I didn't hear these guys say they aren't there, but I may have missed it. I haven't heard either. I don't have a problem with them broadcasting from another location, but it definitely has to suck for them. I'd be pretty pissed if I was covering an event somewhere like China and didn't have the opportunity to go there. There was an article in the NY Times about this issue. They are indeed in New York City in studio 8H, better known as the set of SNL. Most of the broadcasters are limited to exactly what the television audience sees. NBC apparently agreed to do so to keep its on-site contingent small and save money.
  19. Getting ground balls is only good if you have a good IF defense behind him. Brandon Webb and Orlando Hudson are a prime example. Despite some of the comments on the range of the left side of our infield, Dempster's performance is certainly a point in Aram and Theriot's favor. Err...the Cubs defense is the most efficient in baseball. Theriot has limited range, but Ramirez is very good. DeRosa and Lee aren't too shabby either. Going forward, do you think it will remain that way? Our team isn't exactly young.

  21. The people who are in the ESPN talkbacks are the primordial ooze-dwellers of the earth. It's mostly just disappointed and bitter fans of other teams. They rag on the Cubs to make themselves feel better. It's really quite childish and lame.
  22. Jurrjens will be a victim of timing. The voters will go with the guy who hits 5th on the team with the best record in the league over the pitcher on the team that is 6-23 in 1 run ballgames.
  23. My favorite part of Z this year is the increase in use of the slooooooooow curve. It used to be only 3 or so times a year, but Z realized that the pitch actually gets people out. I love the 94 fastball followed by the 61 curve.
