  1. Ball 3 again was again a strike in a normal world.
  2. Z is making me pretty nervous for the LDS with the control he's exhibited since the no-no.
  3. Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Rich Harden, Carlos Zambrano, Carlos Marmol, Matt Clement, Ryan Dempster Ted Lilly, Rich Hill Little of this explains how, say, the 2006 Cubs still led the league in Ks. We gave Juan Mateo starts that year and had MadDog in the rotaiton for 4 months.
  4. At this rate we're going to be facing Chad Billingsley in game 3, not Santana.
  5. Or April Lee. I'll go with any April 2005 Lee, July 2007 Zambrano and then you guys can pick the other months for everybody else. August 2003 Prior. :( September 2004 Prior. Remember his 9 innings 2 hit, 16 k baseball that we still lost? I remember paying attention to that game on gamecast in the library and during classes. That game was so depressing. But you can't beat his 0.69 ERA in 39 August 2003 innings. Neifi Perez in late August/September 2004 hit .371/.400/.548 What a guy

  7. I know what you're referring to, but game 6 was extended agony. For a single moment, I can't decide between Brant Brown and Victor Diaz.
  8. Please justify this statement. The more I think about it, the more I believe that having LESS than 11 pitchers is lunacy. You do realize that there are 2 sets or back to back games during the LDS, right? Why do we need at least a 7 man pen? Yes, there are two sets of back to back games, but how is this any different from playing TWENTY games in a row during the season? I see much, much more use for Hoffpauer than some like Wuertz or Gaudin.
  9. Craig Counsell is the last player I'd like to see at the plate in this situation.
  10. This entire game so far reminds me of a Mark Prior start circa July 2004.
  11. You clearly never played Tony Hawk
  12. Bruce Miles said in Baseball Discussions earlier today that Lou was starting to trust Howry more and more. Ugh. At least Lou likes to change it up sometimes and bring Cotts in to blow the game.
  13. I really hope this isn't a precursor to "Look at Howry's last 2 weeks! He's definitely getting a postseason roster spot"
  14. Has anyone brought up the move of Cleveland's home games to Milwaukee due to snow in April 2007? Those games were at the beginning of the season so had ample time to be made up but were moved anyway. I cannot believe Selig is caving to the Astros whining like this.
  15. I think I realized that this season was going to be something special after the Rockies comeback. This is a bad one, but Marmol's meltdown in Harden's first start followed by Sean Marshall getting the leadoff single to spark the winning rally. Fontenot's go-ahead homer in San Fran. God it's been a really good season.
  16. Yeah thats like literally the exact same stat line except the K's.. Guys, sorry to burst the bubble, but thats a pretty giant except. Um, no. If it mattered or the voters cared, why did Ryan Howard win MVP? I meant in real life, not in post season awards. The first post doesn't say anything about post season awards. Look, outs are outs. I know this is an entire debate unto itself, but are we really getting to get picky about moving runners up or not grounding into double plays? Players can strike out and still be productive. I just don't see how the greater number of strikeouts being literally the only difference in the above stat lines matters at all when considering who has contributed more offensively. For the Record: Soto: 11 GIDP McCann: 17 GIDP I think that stat is much less trivial than their strikeouts, but maybe that's just me When looking at everything all stats together SO's lose a lot of their importance. Getting a groundout could still score a run or sac fly at the very least moves the runners over but all except that last one are accounted for with RBI's. So SO's don't mean as much, now if you look at as a GM with all things equal I'll take the guy who strikesout less because that tends to mean better plate disapline which when their bats slow becomes more important. I somewhat agree, but I think you are confusing plate discipline with bat control. Soto could quite easily be striking out on pitches in the zone because his bat control is not as incredible as McCann's. I unfortunately don't have handy whether Soto strikes out more on pitches in or out of the zone but that would be telling. I think what is important going forward is how you think the rest of those stats will progress. McCann is actually younger than Soto by a year, which is a huge point in his favor here.
  17. Maybe he was feeling tentative having not pitched in 11 days or so and just didn't want to risk really hurting himself when his 90 mph fastball was effective enough. Or maybe he's hurt. It was just one start and time will tell. But I seriously wouldn't worry about it. He wasn't exactly giving up screaming liners that required great defensive plays behind him, that was Marmol.

  20. You get right on the side of playoff preparation and say eff the Brewers. Run out the B team and if they lose, oh well. Exactly. Treat the game like we would have treated the HOF game.
  21. Let's see if we can give it all back.
  22. Think Soriano gets a 6th AB?
