  1. By extension, the Cardinals and Brewers would get much more exposure, so they should be in favor of Cuban as well.
  2. This Cubs team is starting to resemble the 2004 Cubs. They will get a great pitching performance that will carry a lead into the late innings, only to see some reliever allow the tying run and the Cubs offense unable to respond.
  3. Good ridance, no one likes a know-it-all snob anyway. I think what he meant to say was "We understand you have actual experience with these guys. Obviously, that will affect your opinion of them, but we would like to know why you have those opinions. Could you please describe why you feel that why other than nebulous feelings that hes not responsible for the on the field product (duh, thats the GMs job) or off the field project (duh, the team has a long and storied history). What doesn't he understand? How does he treat front office people poorly? If you could enlighten us as to WHY you feel the way you do that would be a great addition. Thank you." Also, hasnt there been a pretty big turnover in baseball ownership since the strike in 94? Arent there very few good old boys? And, wouldn't the lawsuit come from the Tribune shareholders? You mean a lawsuit from Sam Zell I believe, and yes.
  4. Marmol taking a page out of the Mitch Williams playbook.
  5. No Z and Cotts did. No Gaudin and Cotts did.
  6. It feels like a LaRussa managed inning So we have Marshall and Eyre left in the pen. That's it.
  7. And Lou brings in Howry?!?!?!?! Seriously?
  8. We wonder why Lou pitches Z for as long as he can...and then this happens?
  9. Hey at least 0 walks for Z this start.
  10. Only 2 more innings for the CG. He's got it right???
  11. Z will now be useless for roughly 6 starts.
  12. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3503599 That's a huge bid. Huge.
  13. "Not I" answered the fly.
  14. He's done it before. Didn't he score our final run in a game we won by 1 run last year?
  15. Lily didn't like being shown up apparently.
  16. I think around the end of May I was thinking about how I had forgotten what a frustrating time the Cubs could be. Now I remember.
  17. I just want to ask why we need 12 pitchers with that team. I would start Berra and use Bench as the defensive replacement. I would start: Grove Johnson Clemens(although I hate to say it) Gibson Spot start Koufax and Martinez I would Remove Mathewson, who is redundant to Maddux, and replace him with the lefty specialist in Jessie Orosco. I would also remove Pete Alexander and add one of Gossage or Eckersley. You could argue for the Wizard as a defensive replacement and also perhaps someone like Garry Maddox or the young Andruw Jones. And personally, I take Mantle over Cobb. But that's just me.
  18. He was 27-6 that year with a 2.95 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. No chance of him not winning that year. I know Clemens had a nice year too (a better one), but I'd be pretty shocked if this is the worst decision of the decade. James was 100% wrong in that assessment. For the 90's the correct answer was, and always will be: 1999, Rafael Palmeiro wins the AL Gold Glove for 1B. Games he played at 1B that year: 28 He devotes half of Palmeiro's player comment to that very award and what could be done about it. But Gold Gloves aren't what he means when he refers to awards, because there are so many given out that there are bound to be some bad ones.
  19. I think the popularity has gone down for the opposite reason. 12 years ago was the second version of the Dream team, a dominant force. Over the time since then the entire international game has changed and is quite different than the NBA. Carmelo Anthony even said that he prefers international competition to the NBA. It's more of a college game now and less flashy. But the rest of the world has proven it has talent and can play a true team game. This leveled the playing field with the Americans, who could no longer dominate the game. Since the team grew worse it has gotten less coverage. On the larger issue, let's wait to pass judgment until we actually have seen more than one WBC. Give it time.
  20. It doesn't help that the one clutch hitter is mired in a slump so bad that he would strike out in tee-ball.
  21. Huh, they both had .869 OPS before that inning Teams whose average is higher than that: Cardinals (Ankiel Pujols Glaus) Houston(Berkman Carlos Lee) Phillies(Uttley Howard) Brew Crew(Fielder Braun but only slightly) Mets (Wright Beltran actually even) And all four of those teams besides Houston are our competition for the year.
  22. Back to the losers in the thread title.
