Yeah thats like literally the exact same stat line except the K's.. Guys, sorry to burst the bubble, but thats a pretty giant except. Um, no. If it mattered or the voters cared, why did Ryan Howard win MVP? I meant in real life, not in post season awards. The first post doesn't say anything about post season awards. Look, outs are outs. I know this is an entire debate unto itself, but are we really getting to get picky about moving runners up or not grounding into double plays? Players can strike out and still be productive. I just don't see how the greater number of strikeouts being literally the only difference in the above stat lines matters at all when considering who has contributed more offensively. For the Record: Soto: 11 GIDP McCann: 17 GIDP I think that stat is much less trivial than their strikeouts, but maybe that's just me When looking at everything all stats together SO's lose a lot of their importance. Getting a groundout could still score a run or sac fly at the very least moves the runners over but all except that last one are accounted for with RBI's. So SO's don't mean as much, now if you look at as a GM with all things equal I'll take the guy who strikesout less because that tends to mean better plate disapline which when their bats slow becomes more important. I somewhat agree, but I think you are confusing plate discipline with bat control. Soto could quite easily be striking out on pitches in the zone because his bat control is not as incredible as McCann's. I unfortunately don't have handy whether Soto strikes out more on pitches in or out of the zone but that would be telling. I think what is important going forward is how you think the rest of those stats will progress. McCann is actually younger than Soto by a year, which is a huge point in his favor here.
