  1. i dunno... he sure hits a lot of balls right on the screws.
  2. that has to be the weirdest thing ever. one of the best pitching prospects in the game against a failed hitting prospect, and somehow the failed hitting prospect dominates the pitching prospect. it's not like harvey rakes against everyone else, he sucks against everyone else. this makes no sense at all.
  3. i have the answer: don't monkey with the mechanics of a guy who has had control problems in the past. oops, too late.
  4. no need, heart disease should take care of him shortly.
  5. c'mon guys, step it up. i took the over in "number of posts complaining about ronny cedeno not being in the starting lineup." let's get to 8 so that i'm a winner.
  6. it'd be as informative as people who hate him cherry picking stats to support their clearly biased stance. i'd like for you to show me where i advocated we "evaluate a player's defense based upon what the people who like him say." as you stated whilst making your ridiculous straw man argument. What defense metric would you rather we used? i'd say the "ronny makes that play" metric is the most objective - this metric gauges the number of times that ronny would've successfully fielded a ball between 2B and SS or SS and 3B that theriot was unable to get to. Ronny rates as an astounding +72 in this metric, and we're not even a quarter of the way through the season. Hard to argue with them stats.
  7. I miss watching Reynolds and Kruk argue both sides of a completely asinine issue. http://www.firejoemorgan.com/2006/04/i-cant-believe-what-im-watching.html
  8. Well written. As a note, despite the hot start and cult hero status, Reed has a sub 700 OPS. .286/.367/.321 doesn't look all that bad thanks to the decent OBP, but that's not going to last. In addition, he's hitting .283/.322/.321 against RHP. Hopefully Lou stops being fooled by the brief hot streak and realizes who Reed Johnson is, a good option to hit against LHP, but nothing more. agreed. giving reed johnson the lion's share of playing time in CF is more damaging to the cubs - both for this year and for the future of the team - than starting theriot most of the SS playing time over cedeno.
  9. And Soriano? Seriously, people. Listen, I'm the biggest Soriano hater. I was the leader of the anti-sorianos in the thread on his signing, but to want to bench him or "get him off this team" is just ridiculous. People have become so reactionary here its unbelievable. Soriano is the team's best option in LF. he's not playing as well as theriot or cedeno, though, so he should ride the pine for a while.
  10. He's the starter, man. You can't bench the starter. if we're doing this, then put ronny cedeno in LF, theriot at SS and soriano on the bench. and continue giving reed johnson the lion's share of the playing time in CF. Actually, it works any way you want to spin it, because Cedeno has superior minor league history, better tools, is more highly regarded as a prospect, etc. okay so are we playing reed johnson over pie or what?
  11. Ronny over Theriot is not a marginal difference. Well, to be fair, it might be. I don't think it will be, but it might. Cedeno, it's true, has not had extended success against ML pitching. I hasten to point out that I'm not suggesting that he's no good, or that he shouldn't be played because of that, I'm merely saying that we only want him to start because of the probability that he will be a better player. So if he were the starter, it's possible that he would only be a marginal upgrade. However, I still want him to start, and I believe that he'd be a significant upgrade, especially when you consider his defense on top of his offensive superiority. i really wish that cedeno were as good defensively as everyone thinks he is.

  13. He's the starter, man. You can't bench the starter. if we're doing this, then put ronny cedeno in LF, theriot at SS and soriano on the bench. and continue giving reed johnson the lion's share of the playing time in CF.
  14. he's not a great player, but it's pretty absurd that he's in the minors. he's certainly good enough to be a 4th outfielder on a good major league team, or a starter on an average one.
  15. Well he did just hit a PH 2 run game winning HR the other day. Yeah, but can he play a position? i'm guessing he played first base during his non-pitching days at georgia tech and tulane
  16. if dempster doesn't stop walking 4.5 guys per 9 innings, his return to earth will not be particularly pretty.
  17. yeah ravech was good. i think he got tired of working alongside idiots like john kruk and steve phillips every day. Steve Berthiaume is terrible.
  18. what, he's just a big fan of punctuation.
  19. I enjoyed the playoffs last year? Did you? Haha wow, way to live in the past... okay, the cubs are still a game ahead of the brewers, and prince fielder is another day closer to being diagnosed with heart disease. that's living in the presence.
  20. 5.68 ERA and 1.50 WHIP, really getting your $10 million worth there
  21. Come on, man. What is that his 3rd blown save already this year? Plus the horrible outing in game one. I have had enough of the Wood for closer experiment. lol Yeah let's just ignore his 9 scoreless outings and his 1.50 April ERA, or his 11K/BB ratio in April, or the fact that in April he faced 43 batters and only gave up 5 hits and 1 walk. So for April: 1.50 ERA 11K/BB .122 BAA .163 OBPA .244 SLGA .407 OPSA .138 BABIP Against 54 OPS+ Against 0.50 WHIP 8.25 K/9 All this shows is that Kerry Wood is obviously a failure. I'm tired of this, can we please get rid of him? wow that is a wonderfully misleading analysis. quote a month that has comprised nearly the entire season, but leave out the two days on which the pitcher in question has performed terribly, which happen to not fall during the month.
  22. I think this is like the tenth time you've predicted a rain out. the error seems to be thinking that a rainout will happen every time it rains in a city on a given day.
  23. the cubs' pythagorean W-L actually improved during this series! also, this is the st. louis cardinals roster. you should feel better after looking it over.
  24. i think the rain will be mostly through... may be a delay early but i'd expect them to get the game in.
  25. yeah they either have to commit to playing pie most of the time, and pretty much all the time against RHP, or just trade him away. sending him to iowa isn't going to accomplish anything, and it's pretty clear that he's not going to improve by getting sporadic playing time. last night he got boned over on a third strike call (should've been a walk) and hit a liner that was a foot from being a double. there was zero reason to start reed johnson today. there was a RHP on the mound, johnson doesn't have a history against gallardo, and he hasn't been hitting the ball well lately. either play pie or trade him, bottom line.
