  1. As things stand, I would never trade Marmol. Ever. that's a little excessive, but some people here continue to undervalue marmol on the principle that he's "just a reliever." marmol was fourth on the cubs' pitching staff in VORP last season and second this season. he's #2 in baseball in relievers' WXRL this year and #19 last season despite spending a about a quarter of the year in iowa. trade him away and you're losing a LOT.
  2. jed lowrie's stats. he's average defensively. i like lowrie to put up somewhere around a .270/.350/.450 line for the next few years, which is better than we'd do from anybody in-house. but yeah, the red sox don't have any real needs aside from a front line starter (which the cubs aren't in position to deal away), and they're a well-run, well-managed organization that understands the value of their assets. so i don't see much way that we'd get our hands on lowrie.
  3. usc deserves a harsh penalty, but because they're a major, high-visibility program they'll get a slap on the wrist
  4. 2 great games... i'd say you guys got your money's worth!
  5. a blown save would be an incredible kick in the balls here
  6. Considering we have a ton of question marks in our rotation, that's not a bad idea at all. it becomes a bad idea when you don't have a shut-down arm in the bullpen
  7. you need that type of unhittable stuff to nail down a 5 run 9th inning lead
  8. lol, some guy at sawgrass just came about 2 inches from putting the ball off the 17th green and into the water. that would've been a first.
  9. the best part of that happening was howry just standing there, staring at the guy.
  10. i understand not starting randy johnson, because the field was wet and he has balky legs, but not starting zambrano was just weird. and probably dumb.
  11. you know you're watching a cubs broadcast when people vote carlos zambrano as the NL pitcher they'd least like to face.
  12. hendry should send lou a link to the bullpen stats, which show that the bullpen isn't bad at all.
  13. what happened to boston, anaheim and oakland?
  14. i think his point is that projection for gallagher isn't nearly as optimistic as most people on this board think he will be - which is a perfectly valid point. i don't know that he'll be any better than lieber or even marquis this season.
  15. reed johnson's OPS against right handed pitching is below .600, in case anyone was paying attention.
  16. http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/280511116_Diamondbacks_Cubs_71433903_lbig.png note that the cubs' chance of winning declined due to the IBB of chris young
  17. despite lou's best efforts, the cubs are still in this game
  18. coming soon, TruffleShuffle makes a "stop using the worst pitcher in the bullpen with the bases loaded and a tie ballgame just because it's only the fifth inning."
