  1. this is getting ridiculous.
  2. the only thing worse than watching derrek lee ground into his 100th double play of the year was listening to hawk's "rack 'em up" call of the double play.
  3. please for the love of God do not ground into a double play
  4. soto was getting rather lucky on balls in play in his first month; he's been pretty unlucky on balls in play during the last month. his walk rate is down a little but his K-rate hasn't really changed. so he's probably an .800-.850 OPS guy, not as good as he was the first month and not as bad as he has been over the past month.
  5. lou if you hit & run with ward on base i will punch you in the face
  6. Yes, blame fontenot for being short and not patterson for making a lazy play. Great idea. Do you actually think about what you say before you say it? psssssssst... foes list pass it on
  7. everyone overreacts when a guy grounds into a double play, but in lee's case i can understand it. he has been brutal in that respect this year.
  8. i think the love for mayo deal makes sense, just because i don't think mayo would be a good fit in minnesota. i think he'd want to get the hell out of there ASAP. plus they picked up mike miller, who should be a good fit there.
  9. so now the question is (a) who is likely to be the #1 pick in 2009, and (b) which team will the NBA rig the draft for to ensure that they get him?
  10. if you're gonna do it, dempster (relatively high K-rate and high GB rate) is the best guy to have on the mound. i don't think RF is particularly difficult to play at the cell, either.
  11. the cubs should offer duncan $5m a year after this season.... i know he's loyal to TLR, but everyone's got a price.
  12. okay i answered "as long as it takes" but if i start meeting some girls who want to have sex with me, then i might change my answer.
  13. well if the national league wins the game, the national league would get home-field advantage, and you can take a look at the cubs' record to see what home-field advantage might mean for them.
  14. what about jeff kent's broken wrist from "washing his truck"
  15. the cubs did wonders for my hacking mass team by laying a beating to contreras... do it again plz
  16. here's hoping the twins keep their hot streak rolling.
  17. btw all you dayn perry fans should read his latest BP chat
  18. so tommy john was co-hosting the morning show on ESPN radio the other day, and they were going through a list of pitchers who might be eligible for the HoF if they don't pitch again after this year. this was after they got done pimping tommy john as a legitimate candidate - mostly it was his co-host doing the pimping, but you could tell that tommy thinks he is a worthy candidate. anyway, they went down the list of guys and tommy john said no to most of them - schilling, i think smoltz.... but this one blew my mind: co-host: pedro martinez? john: no. what?!?!? some of these old-timey baseball guys are a real hoot. they have to change their pants after talking about what a dominant pitcher sandy koufax was, yet you've got a guy who was easily more dominant than koufax ever was, and they're not convinced that he belongs in the hall. completely idiotic.
  19. So you think Beltran deserves to be there over Nate McLouth? What about Zambrano over Volquez and Lincecum? where did i say that? are you rewarding guys for a good first half of the year, or are you trying to pick the best players and put them on the team? i would prefer that the all-star game be a reward for the players who have played the best to that point in the season, but because bud selig stupidly made the game mean something, there's incentive for both teams to try to win the game. meaning that i'd prefer that they choose the best players for the team. btw, discussing zambrano over volquez and lincecum is pointless because they all will pitch in the game, if healthy.
  20. It is when your 19 year old PG is extermely more talented then your current PG. you assume. there are zero guarantees that collegiate success translates to the NBA (there are too many examples to list). I'm not sure throwing him into the starting role on a team with playoff expectations is wise. Early failure could screw him up for good. LMAO, are you seriously suggesting that there is a remote possiblty that Hinrich could be better than Rose? Last I checked Rose doesn't like motorcylces, so I have no idea how this could be even humanly possible. Hinrich isn't even a true modern PG. Not only that, the fact is you picked Rose over a great prospect. You committed to him, there is no reason to defer from that now by stunting his development by having him not play. not starting =/= not playing.
  21. Agree in theory, but where does he play? Move Hoffpauir to outfield? But yeah, the guy can hit and walks about every 4th PA. can't he still play third base? i guess my wanting him in iowa is mostly because i think he has a chance to be a decent bat off the bench in the majors, and you're running out of time to find out.
  22. pujols was back today, and even while being "very hurt" he has managed to put up a modest 1.121 OPS. yeah this one doesn't make a lot of sense. yeah but there are no players on his list who are playing terribly. giles has a .306 EqA; roberts might be the best 2B in the AL when you factor in that he's significantly better than kinsler when it comes to defense, and giambi has been better than every other 1B in the AL, at least offensively. also, ludwick is at .229/.296/.417/.713 over the last 28 days, so even though his overall numbers are very good, it's pretty likely that his hot streak is over and the rest of the league has figured him out to a large extent.
