  1. hawai'i has a God-awful secondary. i think that most high school teams could throw for at least 200 on them.
  2. you guys lost to a usc grad last year? that's embarrassing.
  3. again, very good nba career. anderson and gill are tied at #2 on my list. not so hot at the free throws, though.
  4. They led 13-3 tell late 3rd right? no, they led 13-0 in the 2nd quarter and they got outgained nearly 2 to 1 for the game. i'm currently 5-1 (only miss was on troy) and have 91 points in the yahoo confidence thingy.
  5. and again, so what? so your point may or may not be technically right, but in practice is pretty much completely wrong. and as for my point, i like competitive balance, and one team having the four highest paid players in the game is not competitive balance.
  6. there's also the fact that last year's team included some contracts that were very heavily back-loaded (giambi). you shed those and take on new contracts that you can backload (sabathia is only making something like $14M this year, then it jumps to like $23M in 2010) and you've got the illusion of a team that has shed salary. if you take the average annual value of each player's contract, i promise you that 2009's team will be more highly paid.
  7. I hate the Red Sox just as much as the Yankees. Oh crap, I just realized that the backlash to all these signings will be 800,000 more annoying Red Sox bandwagoners declaring them "giant-killers" and rooting for them over the Yankees crap. The thing is that the Red Sox put up, what 170 million for Texeira too. The Red Sox have their own evil empire too. this is true, but the yankees now have the 4 highest paid players in baseball. some other teams were starting to challenge them, but now they're taking off into their own stratosphere again. their payroll is currently lower than last year. their season hasn't started yet.
  8. manny, damon and matsui would an absolutely atrocious defensive outfield. to the point of hilarity. nady isn't that bad in LF/RF though.

  10. the owner isn't the problem, it's the MLBPA. they're powerful and they will not let a salary cap be put into place.
  11. that's an interesting photo of ted williams.
  12. i'm guessing it's more because there wasn't indisputable evidence to rule it no goal, but you could be right - the fact that he's a superstar and he cried to the refs could have swayed the decision in toronto. He LITERALLY rolled up to the refs while they were reviewing and showed them what happened... he made the decision for them, that is just sad. was the goal reviewed? if so, reviews are done by video by a central nhl office in toronto, so unless he skated all the way to toronto, i'm thinking you're probably wrong here.

  14. are you kidding??? when i go to flyers games the tickets are usually at least $76 apiece. i would kill for a deal like that.
  15. yes, a shootout victory at home, on a day when the flyers had played the day before and the devils hadn't, certainly proves the devils' dominance over the flyers.
  16. i was facing my old roommate in the finals of a league. he had some guys do better than projected (colston, antonio bryant, gostkowski) plus romo pulled a solid score out his ass (as mentioned above). mcnabb and kevin walter crapped the bed for me, so i was down almost 30 points going into the sunday night game. i had deangelo williams left and he had the giants defense left.... \:D/
  17. if the bucs win (and they will), the eagles have no chance to make the playoffs. i don't know who has a tiebreaker between the cowboys and the bucs.
  18. well despite his best efforts, norv turner has backdoored his way into a likely playoff spot and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. coach of the year imo.
  19. i'm almost glad that i haven't been able to watch most of the eagles game because my parents are coming into town for 5 days and i've been cleaning the house. what a boring game.
  20. i like how we moved the ball at will against the giants, but against the bengals and redskins we're hopelessly inept.
  21. yeah that was pretty funny. in other news, i wonder how a qb with 10 years in the nfl (mcnabb) still doesn't have that clock in his head to know that he should throw the ball after he's been standing in the pocket for 5 seconds.
  22. i think it's funny that byu keeps playing in the las vegas bowl. don't they want to bring out a fan base that will do stuff like gambling and drinking?
  23. if you have to win two home games to make the super bowl, you are a serious super bowl contender. anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.
  24. i'm torn because the chargers could be a really interesting team in the playoffs, but on the other hand i'd like to see norv turner embarrassed at missing the playoffs with a roster that talented. i think i'm just going to root for the broncos to win today and then watch them lose immediately in the first round.
  25. I don't usually root against other teams, but man I hope the Flyers lose their next one too ;) should be a good game. we got thoroughly outplayed in the first period against the caps last night, giving up 25 shots (!!!), but niittymaki stood on his head and then we blew up for 6 goals in the 2nd and 3rd periods. today we lost a shootout to the devils - we're terrible at shootouts though. even without briere we've been on quite a roll since starting out the season poorly - 14-2-4 in the last 20. i'm glad to see the blackhawks be good again; their fans always seemed like they pined for a winner, but dolla bill wirtz was never going to provide a winner (or a team that played on television). you guys are one of my favorite nhl teams other than the flyers, but that being said - i still hope you lose your next game :-)
