  1. i think he was lulled to sleep when "ball two" was called... that one was right down the middle also.
  2. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfx/zoneplotn.php?xml=http://gd2.mlb.com/components/game/mlb/year_2009/month_07/day_20/gid_2009_07_20_chnmlb_phimlb_1//pbp/pitchers/150404.xml&sp_type=1 lilly has made some good pitches but he's also getting boned over.
  3. right down the middle is the only pitch the ump is giving lilly maybe he should try a foot outside, since those were strikes to hoffpauir.
  4. that's about four pitches that are supposed to be strikes but haven't been called. apparently the high strike will not exist this game.

  6. different save for huseby today - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. might be his longest outing of the year, but it's nice to see him pitch multiple innings and still be very effective.
  7. it'd be really nice if joel pineiro remembers that he's joel pineiro. this would also be a nice time for ryan franklin to remember that he's ryan franklin.
  8. anyone else having unpleasant wil nieves flashbacks?
  9. well it will be nice to blame the bullpen instead of the starting pitching and offense for not showing up.
  10. wait was this guy just the attorney general?
  11. Its not what I expect from Gregg - I would just like to have a dominating closer. Fewer walks and fewer flyballs would be a good start. He reminds me too much of Bob Howry. The Cubs don't have a guy like that now. Gregg is who they have, and he is getting the job done. Try to project out a little bit. Gregg is a 3 run jack in the playoffs just waiting to happen. He'll get owned by the better hitters in the NL, in a playoff situation, with a ton of pressure brought to bear. People are rightfully worried about his abilities. well we're not in the playoffs and he's doing fine now, so i'm not going to worry about it too much. plus marmol can't throw strikes, guzman hasn't been great lately, heilman has blown for a year and a half now, and marshall is okay... so there aren't exactly a lot of options down there.
  12. man we had better win this game in 9 because our bullpen is boned otherwise.
  13. This bullpen has put together the most dominating 2 months out of a bullpen that I think I have ever seen out of a Cubs team. They have simply been brilliant since late May. Tonight hasn't been their best night though. Hopefully Gregg can somehow get out of this one. they still walk way too many guys. their BAA is one of the lowest in the league but the OBPA is one of the worst in the league.
  14. walk dunn... he'll hit one 500 feet if you don't.
  15. it all started with walking a dog [expletive] hitter. seriously if you can't throw strikes to ronnie belliard then you don't belong in major league baseball.
  16. he's really not that bad just notoriously unimpressive and will blow up like 7-10 times a year which i guess is bad anyway whatever his WHIP is 1.6 which you can get away with if you have marmol stuff, but not so much if you have heilman stuff.
  17. why on earth can we never get nyjer morgan out? is there something the rest of the league knows that we don't?
  18. that might've been a strike but it never should've gotten to 3 balls in the first place. stop walking hitters who can't hit.
  19. note to lou, you don't have to hit and run every time there's a runner on first base and a 3-2 count. say, when the runner on first base is slow and the batter strikes out a lot.
  20. nah... the game on 6/22 was way worse. dempster labored through 6 innings and had thrown 105 pitches, the cubs were struggling to score and were down a run, and lou left dempster in lead off the top of the 7th and then face the top of the braves' order in the bottom of the inning. that was way worse than this hit and run.
  21. because you're lou piniella and apparently there is a clause in your contract that forces you to hit and run every time there is a runner on first base and a 3-2 count.
