  1. thanks for your take. i certainly would not quibble with hendry being let go, though i don't think he's as bad as most people say, so you need to have a good target in mind. i trust wilken's eye for talent though i still think that colvin was an awful pick. i also like the work the cubs have done in the pacific rim. they need to be smarter about who they overspend for in the draft. some of their bonus babies have been guys that weren't all that highly regarded - huseby was a reach at $1.3M, samardzija's contract was silly, cliff anderson is already gone, rundle has been a huge bust, nobody thought logan watkins was worth 500k, etc. i'd like to see them spend better over slot in the early rounds, and stop buying athletic guys away from football.
  2. ryan ludwick takes a break from his klan rally to hit his 17th home run of the year. 3-1 phils.
  3. they shouldn't have to give up both happ and drabek. take one or the other and throw in carrasco; that's a fair deal if you add a donald brown or something.
  4. so this isn't real, but how about just for fun i create a deal that could make sense for the various parties involved: cubs get: adam dunn joe beimel tigers get: milton bradley $4M from cubs nationals get: casey crosby, LHP scott sizemore, 2B blake parker, RHP junior lake, SS fire away.
  5. koyie, tell us what it's like to be an everyday major league baseball player despite the complete inability to hit major league pitching.
  6. enough with the friggin line outs.
  7. walk the pitcher to get to the pitcher.
  8. they should just walk fontenot and let koyie the rally killer do his thing.
  9. also holliday is having a "down year" because his home games were played at a mausoleum instead of coors field. his power has always been ballpark-dependent; take him out of coors and he's more of a 40 doubles, 20 HR guy than the 35 HR guy that people think he is.
  10. seeing as holliday's career line on the road is .283/.352/.452/.804, i'm gonna go ahead and take aramis as the better hitter.
  11. Yes, he would. Hill's AB's stinks, but he plays too large a role behind the plate that Fox simply cannot do. He's that bad? People can run at will on him, he doesn't call a very good game and he has trouble with the whole catching the ball part of being a catcher. yeah it's a catch 22 because you probably need the extra offense with hart on the mound, but you're also going to have a lot of baserunners on and you need someone who can at least try to control the running game and catch the ball.
  12. your bad for having friends who are cardinal fans.
  13. i'm pretty sure that would've been a walk if hart didn't swing at any of the pitches.
  14. seriously trade for a catcher or call someone up, i can't take any more of koyie hill.
  15. well, unless theriot was bunting because he thought he could get a hit, it was stupid. someone made a dumb choice there.
  16. I mean, I guess I could have understood it had there been a runner on first and Lou wanted to stay out of the double play. But Johnson's already on second so Theriot's not going to ground into a DP. and theriot has good bat control and is pretty good at hitting the ball to the right side, and your #3/4 hitters both are swinging the bats well and are good threats for XBH's, plus it's the first inning of a game that looks like it might be high scoring since kevin hart is bad. but otherwise it was a terrific call.
  17. clearly this big inning was set up by the theriot bunt.
  18. just a terrific move bunting with theriot in the first inning today.
