  1. these are the games i'm actually interested in watching. maybe pitt-nc state too. i'm glad the thursday night game is a good one.
  2. to allow me to tailgate before the game.
  3. three of those runs came on a home run by the opposing pitcher :x
  4. my friend refers to BYU as "Blow Your Uncle". i have no idea why, but it makes me laugh. in related news, they're losing 54-21 to a team that barely beat jacksonville st last weekend. wtf?
  5. i don't think that's hendry's biggest problem. i mean, i think contracts like henry blanco and aaron miles are dumb and unnecessary, but if you're talking about long term impediments to winning, isn't a contract like soriano's (or even dempster's) a lot bigger problem than aaron miles getting $5M over 2 years to completely blow? the cubs have almost no room to make moves after this season and it's not miles' $2.7M that's causing it... it's because they have something like $115M committed to 8 players.

  7. i don't even see the point of being a cubs fan, or a sports fan in general, if all you do is complain about your team. yeah the cubs lost and were pathetic in the playoffs in 2007 and 2008, but considering that they made the playoffs a grand total of four times from 1946 to 2006, i'm going to actually be happy that they made it two years in a row. it's a hell of a lot more interesting than this season, when they pretty much have been playing out the string since late august, and it sure as hell is better than 2006, when the season was done in june. (granted the season was done to some people in april of 2007, but we already discussed that) you want a team that is going to win the world series? give up on the cubs. they probably won't ever win it. go root for the yankees or red sox or cardinals or whatever. i would think that someone who has been a cub fan for a long time, as mr. horse claims, would have gained a greater appreciation for teams that are competitive through august and september, having sat through decades of relative incompetence. instead you bitch about three games at the end of each season. i know they say misery loves company, but frankly we'd just prefer if you leave us alone.
  8. almost as predictable as usc laying a complete egg against a vastly inferior conference opponent.
  9. yeah last year was really nice because the cubs were comfortably ahead for nearly the entire season. we didn't really have to deal with the negatrons until october. unfortunately the most likely result in any given season is "not winning world series" so they'll always crawl out of the woodwork at some point.
  10. haha awesome.
  11. purdont is losing 21-7 to NIU in the third quarter.
  12. frankly i don't think rollins is a great comp. i don't see castro ever having as much speed or power as rollins, and castro has a really heavy GB/FB ratio - rollins has always been pretty close to neutral. early in his career it really diminished his value because he popped out way more than he should have. i like the renteria comps.
  13. yeah we might lose a game.
  14. Still, this is a move Burke absolutely had to make. Kessel is very solid, and like you said, they needed a guy that they could start to build around. I don't know what their cap situation is, but I expect them to steadily stockpile talent over the next few years and be back in the playoffs next year. I heard a lot of talk about how a good Blackhawks team is good for the NHL. I think the same is true for the Leafs. agreed. i think it's a solid deal for both clubs; boston gets a nice return on a player they were probably never going to be able to afford in the long run if they want to keep a lot of their young talent, and the leafs get a top young player who looks like he'll be the center piece of their offense going forward.

  16. hey speaking of people who are banned, when we were doing the change over to the new board, i was on the emergency board and saw that CubsGM was signed on. i guess he must still lurk a lot here, though thankfully we have been spared of his lunacy.
  17. smokies win 5-4. marcos mateo got out of a man on third, 1 out jam in the top of the 9th; guyer singled with one out in the bottom of the inning, stole second and scored on a castro single. game 4 tomorrow.
  18. i guess this game doesn't really matter that much to the cards, but colby rasmus really cannot hit LHP.
  19. reports are that phil kessel has been traded to toronto for a first and second round pick in the 2010 draft, and a first rounder in the 2011 draft; it's also reported that kessel has signed a 5 year, $27M contract with the leafs. he's really good and toronto pretty badly needed a scoring forward to build around, but they suck pretty badly. boston could be ending up with two top 10 picks in the next two years.
  20. i'm in 14th place - my team is named "Managed by Dusty." the team one spot ahead of me is named "Dusty Baker Loves this Team"
  21. i wonder if it's a coincidence that most of the people crapping on bradley in this thread have been on my ignore list for a long time.
  22. tennessee down 4-3 in the 3rd. coleman is laying an egg, not throwing enough strikes at all and getting hit hard.
  23. now let's be fair to larry horse, guys. a quick look at his profile page tells me that this is his most active topic on NSBB. you may recognize his smug, self-satisfied attitude that you see in this thread, as he repeatedly declares the 2007 cubs dead from late april to late june. and that confidence was indeed justified, as the 2007 cubs season indeed ended with only a division title but NOTHING MORE. anyone with such a long history of rational thought deserves the benefit of the doubt on this topic.
  24. (a) that was during a game almost 3 months ago; lots of people say lots of things during games. \ (b) people like you are the reason that bradley hates fans, and frankly the reason that i hate a lot of fans too.
