  1. in other news, tennessee is laying an egg, down 9-0. raley sucked and was removed after a rain delay; caridad came on in relief and also sucked. brett jackson is 0-2 with 2 k's while vitters is not playing. suarez gave up 2 hits, including a hr, in his first outing for daytona.
  2. and longoria's injury, etc. i get that it's been a down year for 3b, but the idea that 3b is offense first is a long-standing myth. in reality it's a lot more like cf or 2b than the true masher positions (1b, corner of).
  3. basically it's a disparity in slugging percentage, like i mentioned before, and no it's not that hard to overcome a .120 disparity is SLG when the superior slugger is a mediocre defender and slow baserunner. fangraphs' player valuation has ramirez worth 1.8 WAR while polanco is at 1.7 WAR. anyway, polanco was voted onto the ASG roster so your real beef should be with chipper jones. i don't really know what this means, but take a look around mlb and tell me how 3b is an offense-first position. only 8 out of 34 third basemen with 150 PA's have an ops over .800. the average line among 3b is .246/.311/.374/.685. here is a list of the positions that have a worse average OPS than third baseman: pitcher is that the qualification, though? or is it who has been the most effective through the first half of the year?
  4. He's not a full time 3B, so I'm not sure how they'd handle that. He plays 2B and OF as well. Regardless, I don't see how Roberts has been better. He has stolen 12 bases, but Aramis leads him in AVG, OBP, OPS, SLG etc etc. Polanco on the other hand has a .681 OPS and 3 steals. He OPSed .583 in May and .545 in June. He's been absolutely terrible outside of April. Unless he's the second coming of Brooks Robinson he has no business in the all star game. The only one who has any claim in my eyes is Headley. nobody disagrees that aramis has been better offensively. defense and baserunning matter a lot more than you're giving them credit for. also, you're giving aramis way too much credit for having a higher SLG. OBP matters a lot more and he's just about tied in that stat with polanco and roberts.
  5. ryan roberts also has been better than aramis. polanco has arguably been better, because he's obviously better in the field and on the basepaths. plus it's not hard to make a case that castro didn't deserve it, so really the cubs should only have the minimum on the all-star roster, and it had to be either castro or ramirez (unless you want to make a case for marshall, but kimbrel has been better than him and was left off, and axford was also omitted)
  6. gotta like what hernandez, zapata and amaya are doing in arizona as 18 year olds. don't like the part where zapata was pulled after his first at bat tonight though. geiger has been hitting well too (9 XBH in 11 games), and even blair springfield seems to have learned how to hit a little.
  7. cuban signee frank del valle has faced 10 batters through 3 innings - 2 walked (one of the was caught stealing) and the other 8 struck out.
  8. jay jackson actually did not pitch like crap - 8 ip, 6 h, 0 r, 1 bb, 3 k. where have the K's gone the last couple of years though?
  9. mcnutt sucked again... 4.1 ip, 10 h, 5 er, 1 bb, 3 k, 1 hr, 70 pitches/50 strikes. at least he was throwing more strikes this time?
  10. well since we know we're not going to win 3 in a row, coleman's start already tells us where the loss will come from.
  11. well he's basically not pitched this year except for a little spring training, so at least if you get him to pitch a little in september and maybe in winter ball then he might be able to handle some innings next year. i'd almost prefer that if you think he's healthy in september, have him pitch... you'll at least get some idea of whether he's broken or healthy, rather than having him be a complete question mark coming into spring training next year.
  12. yeah it's really easy to dance around like a buffoon when you don't ever have to pick up a bat. try that [expletive] when you're a starting pitcher in the NL and have to face 95 mph fastballs from opposing teams you've pissed off.
  13. he needs to understand that all that patience is unacceptable. vitters hit a walkoff single for tennessee in the 10th inning (bases loaded/2 outs)
  14. rusin had a really good outing, but caridad and rhoderick blew it. brett jackson has been doing better in the past few games, and has gotten on base 5 times (2 singles, 1 double, 2 walks) in his 6 PA's. junior lake has a single, walk and SB while vitters is 2-5. jae-hoon ha has started to hit a little more, going 3-5 with a pair of doubles. after his hot start to the year he has really dropped off. watkins was 1-4 with a walk. nothing too exciting for peoria, though loosen pitched very well.
  15. he blew out his elbow and had TJS.
  16. No he'll withhold a dollar from each cable bill to get back at the nfl network.
  17. big game tomorrow with collingwood (#2 in the league) taking on hawthorn (#3). my west coast eagles had a huge win last week, beating then-#3 carlton in melbourne. we hadn't beaten a really good team all year so to win pretty easily against a top four side was a big surprise. next week will be a huge match - we play undefeated geelong here at home. west coast has always been known for being tough at home, so i think we could hand the cats their first loss of the year. i was able to find a good ticket to the game for A$60. then the following weekend i'm going to the west coast-saint kilda match in melbourne.
  18. i just love that fantasy football is the foundation for da bum's relationship with his brother. sounds really awesome.
  19. hey maybe if you keep posting "we stinks" or some permutation of that, it will eventually become funny.
  20. bummer that burke struggled in the 8th (3 hits, 1 bb, 2 wp, 1 k)... hopefully missing some bats in this outing helps give him some confidence. golden walked for a fourth time... the rest of the hawks have walked just 3 times so it's not like their opposition just can't throw the ball over the plate.
  21. (a) who's (b) if he can keep up that .220 babip i'm sure he will be an ace.
  22. race number? so 13 is for white guys?
  23. boise is up 9-0... lopez and Klafczynski have had big games, each going 3-3 with a walk and a home run. reggie golden is 0-1 with 3 walks. really nice outing for kyler burke so far... line out to center and 5 swinging strikeouts.
  24. The 13 Ks in 47 ABs bear watching. Golden was seen as a possible high K guy when he was drafted, as memory serves. Still, he's off to a promising start. yeah i can live with the K's if he hits for power and draws a nice amount of walks. unless you get a freak like pujols you're going to have to accept the K's that come with a patient approach and swinging for power. liria has 5 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 0 bb, 6 k. hopefully a couple of our young latin american starters at short-season ball (peralta, liria, cruz) can step up to peoria next year and become established as good prospects.
