for what purpose? why make, say, penn state play a game at indiana st in front of like 10,000 people? psu isn't going to pay for a road game, indiana state's athletic department gets more money from getting paid to go play at psu, and psu's athletic department gets more money from hosting a home game in front of 100,000. really, between conference play and the 1-2 good OOC games that big-time programs play, there is more than enough good college football to go around. if a team plays a joke non-conference schedule every year, presumably they'll be punished by the pollsters and the computers. i think most of the griping comes not because people care about fairness, but because they just want to watch their team play interesting games every week. that's fine, but you have to be aware that there's more that goes into it than just entertaining people.
