  1. that is not a reasonable response. there are thousands of people in the state college area whose livelihood depends on the football program. it would be extraordinarily stupid to harm all of those people because a small handful of administrators and coaches acted improperly. you get rid of the people involved (which will end up including the president of the university, the guy who oversees the entire athletic department, and the head coach of the football program), you take steps to ensure that something like this never happens again, and you move on from there.
  2. no, that's wrong. the grad assistant was interviewed by the AD and some other administrator. what appears to have happened, and what nobody is alleging didn't happen, is that the grad assistant told the coach (who again, is a conservative old man and coaching icon) that there was inappropriate sexual conduct between a former coach and a young boy. the coach relayed this information to the AD, who then interviewed the grad assistant about what he witnessed. the AD and other administrator are being prosecuted because they repeatedly claimed that they did not know the seriousness of what had occurred, which the grand jury did not find credible given the testimony of the grad assistant and what he claimed he told them during his interview with them. there is plenty to criticize about joe paterno's actions without making things up or assuming things that are unlikely to be true.
  3. it's a former football coach (not a current one, which is important) and the two people accused of crimes are the athletic director (who oversees the football program, but is not a part of it) and another administrator not connected at all to the football program. there is a third person who arguably may be held legally accountable, the school president, who again is not part of the football program. after this occurred, sandusky was banned from bringing kids to the football facilities (it's believed that he did take a kid years later to a football practice, but there's no evidence that further sexual abuse occurred on campus). clearly the response (to simply bar him from football facilities) was inadequate, but it's not really similar to the case where the active head basketball coach at baylor was making tuition payments for active players, covering up false drug tests, committing recruiting violations and then lying about the circumstances of a player's murder. that falls much more under the realm of ncaa guidelines than a head coach and grad assistant who fulfilled their legal obligation to report an incident involving a former coach using football facilities, but (many argue) failed their responsibilities in a moral sense.
  4. who is the 1% of the community that isn't outraged about it? i'm disappointed in those people.
  5. (a) he didn't report it to the AD and the president. he reported it verbally to the AD, who along with another administrator interviewed the grad assistant (mcqueary). they subsequently spoke to the president. (b) paterno has said that he didn't know the exact nature of the sexual abuse, which seems logical to me - when you're talking to a conservative old man/coaching icon, do you tell him that you saw inappropriate sexual contact between sandusky and a minor, or do you tell him that you saw sandusky anally penetrating a young boy? i suspect it is the former, which is what paterno testified to in front of the grand jury. neither mcqueary nor curley has claimed that paterno knew more than what he let on. what kyle said above (about downgrading the seriousness of the allegations) is just making [expletive] up that is based on nothing whatsoever.
  6. lol I know, I know, your football coach, AD and president let a predatory pedofile wander around with only a token attempt to stop him from his continued molestation and rape of children. That's not really *that* bad, is it? And they let him use his reputation, which was gained completely thru his connection to PSU, to do it. It's really a funny situation. Don't have your posts be even bigger idiots than they usually are. Obviously I was laughing at kyle's reaction and not the fact that sexual abuse occurred. Anyway, the football coach of the program you support is a murderer, so I'd drop the holier than thou act.
  7. And Paterno didn't literally enable a child rapist, and there isn't literally a plausible case that Paterno actively covered up for him by downgrading the seriousness of the allegations when he reported it to the AD and President. Oh wait, those are both literally true. Your account of what's gone on here is literally wrong.
  8. lol I know, I know, your football coach, AD and president let a predatory pedofile wander around with only a token attempt to stop him from his continued molestation and rape of children. That's not really *that* bad, is it? Most of it has nothing to do with football or the football program. there is no cause to even be punished by the NCAA, so yes, your statement was comical.
  9. it's lovely. quite a bit better than milwaukee. you should consider a lifestyle change. whoa really? because the grand jury indictment includes only one sexual assault after 2002. if you are withholding information i suggest turning that over to the police immediately. He reported it to this board, fulfilling his legal obligation. That's not how it works, unless you're saying that the board administration is legally obligated to report it. So I hope Tim contacts the authorities and tells them that a member of this community has information on several incidents of child abuse during the past few years.
  10. Along with a whole lot of other people who were aware that abuse was occurring or had occurred, and didn't stop it. Or are you just in favor of making up charges against elderly football coaches?
  11. lol
  12. Just like they really wanted cliff lee last offseason and went out and got him. Based on his previous comments NY doesnt seem like his ideal place to live. Doesn't matter. More times then not a player will go to the highest bidder. If I remember right CC wasn't that high on NY either. It's rare that a player will take less money to play elsewhere. well don't make a definitive statement like "if they want him then they're going to get him. period" when all one has to do is go back to the most recent free agent period to find a guy they really wanted, offered the most money to and didn't get.
  13. Just like they really wanted cliff lee last offseason and went out and got him.
  14. Hey give the eagles some credit, their D looked pretty good considering that it's being run by an offensive line coach.
  15. no. there are three weeks left in the season, coach those out, coach the bowl game, then retire. he's done a tremendous amount for the school during his career, and i've always felt that he should get to decide when he goes. public opinion is quite against him (obviously) and it might be difficult to continue beyond this year, plus he'll be 85 years old and has been coaching from the booth for almost the whole season. they've overachieved and will go to a pretty good bowl game. it would be a good time to step away.
  16. i too am shocked that a thread with the title "joe paterno" (a famous football coach), contained in the nsbb section "rants" under the heading of "non-baseball talk," does not contain valuable information about the chicago cubs.
  17. you seem to be reading things that aren't being written. smack confidently and unequivocally stated that several boys have been raped because of joe paterno. that led me to believe that smack has inside information about sandusky's activities, and as such smack can prove that he's a better man than paterno by taking this info to the police immediately.

  19. maybe if you were more likeable people would give you sweetheart deals like the one i gave tim.
  20. it must be delightful to be so condescending and still have the ability to ban and suspend people.
  21. if he feels that way and lawmakers feel that everyone who suspects a sexual abuse should go to the cops, then hopefully they will go ahead and change the law. the law, as it is written now in pennsylvania, encourages people to go through their superiors rather than to the police. personally i would have some concerns that anyone can go to the police with a claim of sexual abuse against somebody they don't like, but if that's the route they decide to go, then so be it.
  22. yes it couldn't be that i have a different opinion than you, it must be that i'm holier than thou and trolling. anyway, trolling is against board guidelines, so i should be banned. and conveniently there is a moderator right here!
  23. i'm disappointed. i figured if anyone could appreciate a good holier than thou attitude it would be yourself.
  24. you mean my analogy wasn't the exact same thing as the situation that actually happened? you don't say.
  25. I SAID ONCE.
