  1. that may or may not be true, but if it is that's only because our pitching sucks. his ceiling really isn't that high, except maybe as a reliever. he's barely averaged 7 K/9 IP and that's as a 23 year old in A-ball.
  2. Jesus H [expletive], the Astros made out like bandits here. They gave away the expiring contract of Brandon Lyon, a so-so at best back end starter, and a meh 27 year old reliever and ended up with 3 high ceiling arms between the ages of 19-23, as well as a couple of vets that they could either flip at the deadline or dump. We couldn't have got that package for a pile of our junk? Hopefully he was just too preoccupied with Feecing Ned Colletti for Zach Lee. lol @ calling asher wojciechowski and david rollins "high ceiling arms"
  3. even if one throws out dempster's fluky-good 2012, if you go back through the last 5 years (since returning as a starter) he's basically been a solid #2. 3.61 ERA, 118 ERA+, 1.29 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9, 8.2 K/9. those are the kind of numbers that teams were paying $15-20m a year for (john lackey, barry zito, aj burnett). a lot of meatballs seem to know what an ace is (verlander, sabathia, felix hernandez) and what a back-of-rotation starter is (marquis), but have no concept of how to differentiate between a pitcher like ryan dempster and a pitcher like paul maholm or jeff suppan.
  4. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_07_19_chamlb_bosmlb_1&mode=recap_home&c_id=bos#gid=2012_07_19_chamlb_bosmlb_1&mode=video another fine call by hawk.
  5. really? Jeez wtf was I doing that week.
  6. traded with dempster and vitters (didn't play tonight) for zach lee and matt kemp.
  7. most of the time when people say they could do something better than a professional baseball player they're full of [expletive], but i honestly think i could do better than putting the ball in play once in 37 at bats.
  8. i don't understand why people get their panties in a bunch over legitimate criticisms of szczur. yes, keith law is a troll. but he's hardly the only person saying that szczur doesn't look like a first division starter, given his lack of power in game situations.
  9. I subtracted points from week 15 results because 4 teams went over the 3 start limit. When we had the 3 start limit, it was against a Scioscia's Tragic Illness (week 15) not week 14 against Tim...I mentioned in last week's thread that I went over and it would not matter if an adjustment was made because I won by plenty. it wasn't supposed to be week 14, let me double-check what happened. edit - ok, i had accidentally entered them in the wrong week and then re-entered them in week 15, but when i deleted them from week 14 it didn't take for some reason. should be right now.
  10. Stealing a joke that sneaky made in the past... "who is this germano?"
  11. I'm not even sure why Mickelson even bothers playing the British open. I think his best finish there is something like 30th.
  12. I subtracted points from week 15 results because 4 teams went over the 3 start limit.
  13. only 3-5 years? i can't see the cubs competing before 2020.
  14. you've got the ridiculous part right.
  15. vitters is 0-3 with 3 strikeouts. :?
  16. josh johnson has been extremely lucky in this game.
  17. three up, three down, three line outs in the first inning? that's annoying.
  18. aaron cook has pitched effectively for the red sox in 5 starts, despite a K rate of 0.62 per 9 innings. he has 2 K's in 29 innings pitched.
  19. vogelhomerun to go with vogeltriple. that's 20 extra base hits in 20 games.
  20. you hate a hitter swinging at a 3-1 pitch? that's an extreme hitter's count.
  21. vogelbach triple! that would be fun to see.
  22. candelario hbp in the first inning
  23. why can our pitchers not get carlos lee out?
  24. yeah hopefully it's just a plunking in the back and they're done with it. i wouldn't really have a problem with him getting hit, either. it's fine that he was excited, but it sure looked like he was showing the other team up and taunting the opposing players (maybe the pitcher?) between second base and home. not a big fan of the unwritten codes, but this seemed over the line.
