    i watched diving for 8 years during high school and college, and i saw some bad dives, but i never saw someone just completely blow up and land on their back like that. after watching it in slow motion and reading about the dive, he lost his grip on his back leg, which sent him out of control pretty quickly.

    yeah plus there just aren't that many LH starters, and i highly doubt that any team is going to pay a mint in the offseason for a hitter who OPS'ed .900 in 60 at bats against mostly opposide-side pitchers.

    And therein lies the problem with Twitter KG: He answered THAT, instead of actually giving an opinion on Peralta. well his employer is a site that depends on subscriptions to make money. if he just gives his information/opinion for free to anyone who asks, nobody is going to pay to read what he writes on BP.

    well, i like that brett jackson is almost certainly going to have some deep at bats and make opposing pitchers pile up pitch counts. hopefully he can do enough in those deep at bats to be productive major league player.

    so again, why does one "gotta think" that the worst case scenario - blows out elbow in spring training after presumably undergoing a thorough physical before signing - will be the one that comes through? please phrase your response in a format that does not include "it's the cubs."

    no, one definitely doesn't gotta think that. It was a bad gamble. But the fact that it failed doesn't mean that. Bad gambles can win and good gambles can lose. (a) one doesn't gotta think that garza will be getting paid to rehab from TJS next year. sometimes pitchers have minor injuries and recover from them. roy halladay just missed like two months with a shoulder injury and is pitching again. it's quite a leap from "stress reaction in elbow" to "gotta think TJS is imminent." (b) thanks for the advice confucius.
