  1. almora-vogelbach-soler... boner city.
  2. raul ibanez since june 1: .206/.274/.327/.601 raul ibanez' obp in 2011-12: .292. add in the fact that he's a terrible fielder, and i don't think too many teams would be thrilled to have him as half of a leftfield platoon.
  3. 5 hours ago and yes, it was posted multiple times a few pages back.
  4. wouldn't that be the kind of thing you'd talk about before basically agreeing on a trade? hammering out a contract extension isn't exactly a minor thing.
  5. Still, there was a reason they chose PSU over other schools in the first place, and a reason they didn't transfer already when all this was already going on. well, the reason they didn't transfer when this was going on was that they didn't have a waiver and would have to sit out a year. everyone knew the school's reputation was in shambles, but nobody knew if the ncaa would step in since no ncaa by-laws were violated and the ncaa has never levied a punishment for situations like this. after the freeh report and the comments by emmert last week, i would think that any player who didn't have his head lodged up his ass would start to consider other options, given the possibility of significant ncaa sanctions.
  6. most freshmen aren't going to play much no matter where they are (unless they're at penn state now, apparently). i would hope that a PSU freshman isn't deciding where to transfer based on which team might be soft at cornerback or left guard but rather what would be a good fit football-wise (and of course academically, lol) in the long run.
  7. the freshmen who stay for all four years of their eligibility are either fools or are bad players who just want to play football at a bcs school. they have ample opportunity to leave immediately and play somewhere else. since psu funds their non-profitable sports (in other words, pretty much all other sports) with football money, the ncaa required that they continue to do so. it's not going to work in the long run as the football team is going to be bad for a long time and all the other sports will take a hit financially, but in theory it doesn't make sense to punish women's gymnastics for the misdeeds of some football hierarchy, and at least the NCAA recognized this. (despite failing to recognize that other sports will be punished in the end)
  8. Indeed it was, but it was probably enhanced by the lack if any other sound in the park. That place was deserted. apparently the guy who took the video, keith law and arizona phil are the only ones who attended.
  9. was there no discussion of santo being enshrined? i almost forgot that it was happening. i guess it just goes to show how much less significant it was since they did it after he passed away. F off veterans committee.
  10. in 6 plate appearances he has grounded out twice to pitcher and lined out sharply to pitcher, along with hitting a third baseman in the head with a line drive. clearly he is a menace.
  11. yeah, why is ron washington talking about which minor league players are available for trade?
  12. WHAT A GREAT SIGNING I KNEW THIS GUY WAS GONNA BE AWESOME
  13. 3 run homer for vitters. but also two K's to give him 14 in the last 8 games.
  14. tennessee beat up on zach lee, tagging him with 7 runs allowed (5 earned), 7 hits and 4 walks in 3.2 innings. maybe the dodgers should trade him.
  15. FFS Demp, just bunk with Lilly for a few months and we'll give you an extension in time for the Holidays. did you just completely ignore the part where brett says "I have not heard this"?
  16. Going to a new league and possibly getting hit hard in the AL East could cost him millions as a FA. except this was about him being traded to boston, which is one of the AL East teams that hits pitchers hard. here's the rankings in OPS of the other AL East teams: Yankees: 1st (.802) Toronto: 9th (.749) Baltimore: 21st (.708) Tampa: 24th (.692) so basically one really good offense, one good offense, and then two lousy offenses. unless he ends up facing the yankees like 5 times in 10 starts, i fail to see how he's going to lose out much.
  17. he's a poker dealer now? when's that peace corps gig starting up?
  18. would it really matter that much? he'd be playing in the american league for two months and then could come back to the NL. it's not like he's some awesome hitter and would hate having the bat taken out of his hands. plus dempster seems pretty into the cubs' fan base and history, and the red sox have plenty of that going for them.
  19. meh, the guys they gave up aren't the guys they would have to give up to get garza. their system is plenty deep and they have enough quality to get garza if they want him. their rotation is still not very good - happ is a marginal back-end guy. if that was all they wanted (an upgrade to j.a. happ) then there's nothing the cubs could really do about it.
  20. yeah garza wouldn't be an upgrade over the pitcher who's striking out 1 batter every 15 innings.
