  1. yeah well i also wish that theo epstein had taken over a team that won 93 games the previous year (100 pythagorean wins) and had jason varitek, nomar, manny ramirez, johnny damon, trot nixon, pedro martinez and derek lowe on the roster, rather than a team with 30 fewer pythagorean wins the previous year and an absolute dearth of star caliber players in their primes.
  2. i'm still in despite royally bungling this season.
  3. i can take on some points too.
  4. at the nationals one he's probably thinking "great another [expletive] base, where am i going to put all this [expletive]?"
  5. He is the community outreach executive for the Astros. Saw him at the draft this year. Quite a few people brought him up here, me included, but I guess he just decided to stay away for health reasons. What did he have during that Padres game, an aneurysm? That final press conference was pretty intense, and I remember an interview afterwards where he sounded really burned out. right, but that was in 1999. he recovered to manage later that year and then managed the astros in 2000 and 2001. maybe he's just attached to that area and the organization, but on paper he'd look like a guy who was successful, had good ideas and should have managed another ballclub.
  6. this is off topic, but whatever happened to larry dierker? had a .556 winning percentage and the astros won the division 4 out of 5 years under him, but they always underperformed in the playoffs and he got canned. seems like a guy who should've been given a shot elsewhere.
  7. i'm starting to think that justin germano isn't going to be the future rotation cog we all thought he'd be.
  8. you know, there's another player who was HBP in his only major league plate appearance. granted it happened in 1955 and he's currently 75 years old, but i say what the hell, give him a shot too! it's time to right these wrongs!
  9. so this is promising, hopefully: castro, first half: 85 games, 12 bb, 61 k castro, second half: 71 games, 23 bb, 36 k. also, his OPS is about 40 points higher in the second half despite a BABIP that's 40 points lower.
  10. [expletive] you, andrew.
  11. i'll take "whoever is playing the cardinals"
  12. congrats to penn state on snapping their 15 year winless streak.
  13. well the red sox, fenway park and 80% of NESN were bought for $700m in 2002, which is looking like a pretty nice bargain since the dodgers just went for over $2 billion.
  14. yeah chipper jones is one of the best 3b of all time, he's pretty great.
  15. i honestly would punch dusty baker in the face if i saw him on the street. not trying to be macho or whatever, i just hate that man and he deserves to be punched in the face.
  16. kudos to soriano, he's actually had a reasonably good year. if the cubs aren't able to trade him, it would be nice if he can be decently productive during the last two years of his contract.
  17. well every team that makes the playoffs can be dangerous in a short series. i'd still sure as hell rather play the orioles than just about any other team that might reach the playoffs.
  18. Sorry, was my last week visiting the US and spent the weekend traveling to LA and then back to Perth. Thought I had the starts set up right but guess not.
  19. only 6 HR allowed through 7 innings? solid work.
  20. haha that was exactly my reaction. i often have that reaction with guys in the minors, but it's rare that someone reaches the big club and i have never heard of him in my life. good times.
  21. sabathia's wife looks like a platypus.
  22. almora?!? has a high school draftee every played in the AFL like 3 months after being selected?
  23. coors field + babip, that's what's up with that.
