  1. the funny thing is, if they would play at like 9-10am, they'd get in almost all of their games. i lived in miami for a couple of months in late summer, and it rarely rained before noon, unless there was a tropical low in the area. but in the afternoon and early evening it was like clockwork. unfortunately the minor league club needs to make some money, so they play when the thunderstorms are occurring or have already rendered the field unplayable.
  2. yes, absolutely this. aside from that kingkongvsgodzilla lunatic, davearm was the worst.
  3. http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/764/lillymolina.gif this is [expletive] great. best part is how lilly immediately just gets up and jogs to the dugout.
  4. lol at the video. it took him 29 seconds to circle the bases because it took him 10 seconds just to reach first base. when he hit the home run he stood and watched it for about 6 seconds. probably better to teach him a lesson by benching than to have him get repeatedly drilled by opposing pitchers.
  5. noah syndergaard (acquired in r.a. dickey trade): 104.2 innings, 2.67 ERA between the FSL and eastern league, 25 bb/113 k. in the eastern league he's got a 9 bb/49 k ratio in 41 innings and an ERA under 2. and he's just 20. one of my favorite prospects... blue jays are going to regret that deal.
  6. baez 2-2 (single, double) with a stolen base.
  7. with how tough he is against right handed batters and his good fastball/slider/curve combo, arrieta could be a really good late inning reliever. discuss.
  8. Well, technically he was at the top level of our minor league system.
  9. if the cubs had more power bats in place at the infield/outfield corners, i'd probably do it. but i wouldn't do it given the way that the cubs are currently constructed. they already have a shortstop who doesn't hit for much power but has a solid glove and good contact skills. baez has the type of bat where, if he pans out, he can still be really valuable shifting over to 3b. lindor and castro lose too much value shifting off of shortstop. and the cubs could really use one or multiple players who project to have 30 home run power, which baez does.
  10. his iso is over .100 this year, while being one of the youngest players in a pair of pitchers leagues. the lack of power would concern me more for hamilton than for lindor. i have no idea how hamilton walked so much last year - presumably it was just because of facing subpar pitching - but it doesn't seem like his hit tool is good enough to keep grinding out long at bats and taking walks. lindor's contact skills are a lot better than hamilton's, so i'm pretty confident in lindor's ability to hit for a good average, even if it doesn't come with much power or patience until he develops at least more gap power with maybe 10-15 home runs per year.
  11. the hits can be a result of bad luck or they can be a result of him having poor command within the strike zone and throwing too many hittable strikes. he's 18 years old, probably barely speaks english and pitching his first year outside of his home country. i'm sure he is being challenged.
  12. he's 18 and is allowing more than a hit per inning, let's relax.
  13. paco rodriguez sounds like a name a video game would generate for a generic hispanic player.
  14. i have a hard time hating the marlins' actual players and caring whether they win 50 or 70 games. the organization, on the other hand, is pathetic. loria and samson should be shot into the sun.
  15. the NWL is a pitchers' league.
  16. top prospect gerardo concepcion is making his season debut for the azl cubs.
  17. castro and rizzo each with 2 hits, including a home run? more of this, please.
  18. Sweet reminder about his previous top 20: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/12/2/3718190/chicago-cubs-top-20-prospects-for-2013 i've been reading his midseason org reports - he discusses how each of his top 20 is faring and also mentions guys who have become factors in the first half of the year, without producing a new list.
  19. You do realize that scouts watch the games right? They don't simply discount a guy because they see a BS in the box score. Yes, and for the past several weeks he's been giving up bullets all over the park and getting saves in spite of it. But you said this was a make or break outing for him... not just a make or break OUTING, but the difference a hitter out (with the bases loaded) and allowing him to reach base is the difference between him having trade value and being worthless. apparently major league general managers have the attention span of an orangutan.
