    that's the best defensive play i've seen in a really long time. the amount of velocity he gets on that throw with little more than a flick of his wrist is incredible.

    well, he pitched regularly from may 17 to early june, then didn't pitch again for 3 weeks, pitched 1.1 innings, and hasn't appeared for over a month and a half. so he might be hurt.

    lol kevin towers. there's literally nothing that would have been a disappointing return for tony campana. the fact that an organization was willing to give up two young and relatively projectable arms for him is just baffling and hilarious.

    The Dodgers TV deal alone pays them 230 mill or so a year. Thats not counting ANY other revenue streams they've got. They were making profits prior to the TV deal and the renovations they've been doing. I said when this group bought the team they'd have a 300 mill payroll within 5 years and I believe it now more than ever. a payroll that's $80m above their current level is hardly the same thing as spending "whatever the hell they want and not giving a single [expletive]."

    assuming that the dodgers sign kershaw, they'll have 5 players making over $20m per year, including two making over $25m per year. plus that ridiculous ethier contract of $18m per year. i know the dodgers have a lot of money but jeez, can they really sign cano and have something like $160m committed to 7 players every year through 2017?

    i assume the dodgers will sign kershaw to a long term deal this offseason, but it would be interesting to see how much he would get in his final year of arbitration. i'll guess that his long term contract ends up somewhere around 8 years/$240 million, including some kind of vesting option years that are reliant on health.

    yeah, probably never sees an at bat for kane county. hopefully he destroys the FSL too, so he can start next year at tennessee and candelario can start at daytona.

    IMO the idea that speed guys become worthless more quickly is not really true. lou brock and ichiro and rickey henderson were very productive well into their 30s. i'm not saying to give ellsbury a 15 year contract, but if he were signed through age 36 or 37, i'd expect him to be productive for most of the contract length. he's got enough pop that he won't instantly lose all value when his foot speed starts to fall off.

    Well, they didn't think he was terrible, just overhyped. Puig was a complete unknown since he was suspended by Cuba and didn't play for nearly two years. So when he showed up in his showcase fat and out of shape, wouldn't do half the things you expect baseball players to do in tryouts, the scouts had to rate him on the little information they did have. Abreu has been seen far more than Puig since he's older and has taken part in a numerous international tournaments. There's a lot less mystery with him so scouts should have a much better idea rating him. yeah, the impression i got from the opinions on puig was that the range of possible outcomes was enormous - like a lot of people could see him becoming an all star and the same people could see him struggling to hit at AA. and holy [expletive], how does puig still have a .476 babip?

    agreed, i'm happy for the cubs to do their part in sticking the cardinals into that wild card elimination game.

    awesome, always great to beat these d-bags. shouldn't have been so close. cubs left 11 on base and cards left only 1.
