  1. So would I, but I'd take Santo's career as a Cub over Sosa's. Not true at all, at for my part. People don't understand the era during which Santo played, or his value at the position he manned.
  2. Bill James has Santo as the 6th greatest third baseman of all time. Sosa's ranking at RF is 19th greatest of all time right fielders through 2003, and it's pretty clear that what he did in 2004-2005 did not boost him much. His win shares per year are basically equal to Sosa, and his OPS+ is only 4 points lower than Sosa. When you consider that Santo played a premium defensive position, and played it at a Gold Glove level, while Sosa was no better than average in RF. It's really easy to argue that Santo was better than Sosa. Is it unthinkable that outfielders might be so much better offensively than third basemen that maybe the 19th best RF is still better than the 6th best 3B? Yes, because the stats I gave you above suggest that Santo was just as good offensively as Sosa. If you want to make a direct comparison between third basemen and right fielders, or right fielders and catchers, be my guest. I think it's much more fair to rate a player versus his peers - those who played his position.
  3. 1. Banks 2. Brown 3. Sandberg 4. Santo 5. Williams

  5. Well if it makes Weaver feel any better, he pitched way better than Jason Marquis.
  6. Most important number in that stat line... nobody ever doubted his ability to hit home runs, but he'll never be a good hitter with his horrendous K/BB ratios.
  7. He'll get a total of $4.25 million this year, and he signed an extension in March which will pay him $5.5 million in 07 and 08. With a bargain contract like that, no way the M's move him.
  8. And he plays in an extreme pitchers park, too.
  9. Glad to see Genesis is taking the beating they so richly deserve.
  10. I agree... more walks than strikeouts, and a career OPS+ of 118 from a defense-first position. Plus an 8-time all star. IMO he's the best catcher not in the HOF already.
  11. still already had his shot, dude. If they're going to keep Dusty around, they really need to call Hill up and just tell Dusty he's in the rotation the rest of the year.
  12. Update: Rich Hill - 5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K still in Iowa
  13. Eyre and Howry have both earned their keep this year.
  14. Rich Hill so far: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K still in Iowa
  15. is the only reason that hill is still in the minors is that dusty doesnt like him? maybe they are waiting for his era to go below 1.00 before they bring him up again. they have got to dump maddux soon and give hill a real shot again. Well Rusch is the real one who should be dumped, but yeah, it's absolutely pointless to have him in the minors at this point. He isn't going to learn anything new there.
  16. Well, Hill is dominating again... good thing he's in the minors!!!
  17. Hey, at least someone is getting beat worse than the cubs... http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=g_box&gid=2006_07_16_ricaaa_syraaa_1
  18. Looks like I might have to make a trip up to Lansing on July 23rd. :D Heres to "The Shark" having a really bad yr, and falls into the 4th rd or worse in the draft. Here's to the Shark having a really bad year and Notre Dame finishing below .500 and out of the bowl picture. I'll toast to that!
