  1. maybe ndistops should be an nfl scout... then again, he probably thinks every ND player is going to be an awesome pro, and that could be a weakness :P
  2. ah, found it. Now to make all you fools accountable! Kudos to this guy, although he was right for the wrong reasons: Now, everyone say you're sorry to Mr. Angelo and Mr. Hester :D
  3. by the way, i went back and found the 2006 draft thread and am reading through it now to see what reactions were. I'm looking forward to the page(s) where the Bears picked Devin Hester and everyone is pissed off. Kudos to ndistops for saying the Jets would be much better this year (after they picked another offensive lineman).
  4. The wild card could be Adrian Peterson, but yeah, I tend to agree. Seems to me that if the top 3 picks go to Detroit, Oakland and Tampa, then you've got three teams that don't really need a RB picking first. Then at 4-9 you've got Washington and Arizona, who won't be picking RBs; Cleveland, who probably would pick Peterson, and Houston, who SHOULD pick Peterson - but they're so incompetent that they might not. He seemed like a great fit for Green Bay, but with the win last week and another likely win this week against Detroit, they might have to "settle" for a guy like Marshawn Lynch.
  5. Emil Brown is like 5 months older than Jacque Jones. It's not like he'd be coming here with the intent on patrolling CF for the next 4 years. He'd be patrolling it for a minimum of 3 months or so, and a maximum of the full 2007 season. We don't need a long term investment. Plus, he'd be great off the bench I was about to laugh at this, but then I looked at his stats and saw that he hasn't been that bad the last two years. I didn't realize that he was even in baseball after leaving the Pirates - although I guess some would argue that playing for the Royals isn't really "in baseball."
  6. I have a hard time believing that the top 3 picks won't be Quinn, J. Thomas and C. Johnson, in some order.
  7. That was a sick shot. wowwww. Speaking of great goals, I remember Tony Yeboah had two incredible strikes back in the late '90s when I'd watch EPL highlights on (now defunct) SportsChannel. Here they are: One Two edit - another guy I remember, Peter Beardsley... a magician with his feet. The second goal in this video is amazing.
  8. Wouldn't surprise me, to be honest. He definitely has an irrational hatred for running quarterbacks. Vince Young had the third best passer rating in college football last year, but I think Merrill hates him because he isn't the conventional pocket passer and uses his legs to make things happen. Salisbury is kind of a fool, but Merrill Hoge really makes him look like a football guru.
  9. Well fortunately for Bengals fans, bad taste doesn't make one a bad quarterback. They should have done one for Chris Henry... #1 would have to be "a really good lawyer"
  10. yes... listening to merrill hoge talking football I don't think I've heard him speak, outside draft day, in quite a long time. Does he still work with Jaws and Kolber? Yes, and I get the impression he doesn't like Vince Young. Just a hunch. he's also picked the Steelers 12 out of 13 games this year in the ESPN expert picks. They're 12-1 right? oh wait never mind they're 6-7, too damn bad Merrill. -he has a disdain for any team that relies more on the pass than on the run -he hates all the AFC central teams as well as the Eagles, and goes out of his way to find ridiculous reasons why those teams won't win -he doesn't realize that teams can do things differently than they did back in the late 80s and early 90s - and still win.
  11. yes... listening to merrill hoge talking football
  12. I'll agree on this, and I don't like when baseball announcers call it a slump-buster when a guy goes 3-for-5 with a homer after he craps the bed for the better part of 20 games. Let's wait and see if it lasts.
  13. By this definition, then I'm guessing that no quarterback ever slumps. How many guys have seven bad games in a row, or even four in a row? Can't think of any, really. Here's why I'd consider it a slump: First 5 games of the season: 4 really good games, 1 mediocre, 0 awful Next 7 games of the season: 2 really good games, 1 average, 4 awful To me, sprinkling in some good efforts when you're killing your team in over half your games, doesn't mean it's not a slump.
  14. They should offer $9-10M for 4-5 years and then just leave. Tell Boras to call them if they want it; otherwise, goodbye and don't forget to apologize to your client for screwing him over too.
  15. Baseball isn't football, that's a terrible analogy. The media has acted as if the NY games were bad, and the San Francisco games didn't happen. For other QBs, Eli for one, they are more than willing to describe it as inconsistent. Eli had 5 straight games with a rating below 80, 7 with a sub 100. The longest Rex went with a sub 80 rating was 2 games, and only 3 with a sub 100. Only a clueless moron would call that a 7 game slump. It's called inconsistent results. If you want to try the baseball analogy it's more like a starter throwing a complete game shut, then getting rocked in 2 innings, following that up with a 8 inning 1 run outing, a 4 inning 5 run outing, a 7 inning 2 run outing, a 6 run 3 inning outing, then 2 more shellackings. Incompetent journalists would lump that into a long slump. People with a brain would call that inconsistent. There's a clear distinction. Well, call it what you want to call it. Find another quarterback who has four games with a rating of 36.8 or worse. Actually, find another one with three, let alone three in seven games. You'll be searching for a while.
  16. Why? WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHYWHY Why do people keep lumping in the 2 NY games and the San Francisco game into the discussion about Rex's bad games? Why? Why are they so utterly incompetent to make this mistake over and over again? It's not incompetent. He had four atrocious games in a seven game stretch. It wasn't like there were three good games, two average and two lousy. Most QBs don't have two games that they're that bad - he had four in seven games. I don't know what his QB rating was during that stretch, but it's probably below 50. If a baseball player has 12 bad games and 3 good games, it gets called a 15 game slump because he probably is hitting .150 during that period. That's what they're doing with Grossman.
  17. ugh 6-10 ATS this week :(
  18. Doesn't matter, even with LT you will lose to my super-team in the keeper league.
  19. whichever team doesn't get brady quinn could get joe thomas from Wisconsin... that's probably a blessing in disguise since both teams have awful offensive lines. It's also possible the Raiders would pick Calvin Johnson, since Porter is on his way out and Moss doesn't want to be there. Arizona has probably screwed themselves out of a shot at Joe Thomas, but they could still get Jake Long from Michigan.
  20. this is ourrrrrrrrr country
  21. I think it'll be a good game, especially if you like great defenses and incompetent offenses. :) I agree, soccer10k, ASU-Hawaii is going to be a great game. BYU-Oregon is a good game too... people don't know much about BYU but they're a definite top 25 team.
  22. Buffalo leads Jets, Packers lead Niners, etc. My picks are totally in the toilet this week. SD and Cincy were the only favorites that really played the way they were "supposed to" this week.
  23. just making your draft position worse
  24. jeez denver sucks now
  25. weren't you gone until next year? j/k I'm suspending judgement until the contract details become official. But if they're confirmed at 3/$28M, then I've already said my goodbyes :D Will you be back when we win the World Series? well I'll be back in January, so yeah, I think I'll make it back by then. But I expect to be underground in a wooden box by the time the Cubs win the World Series.
