  1. from baseball prospectus' minor league update:
  2. Probably starting to think about opening up some pizza joints somewhere together lololol
  3. alcantara always struck me as a guy who would be underrated because he didn't have a huge ceiling, but eventually people would wake up and he'd be posting jason kipnis or brandon phillips-type numbers from the middle infield, which is tremendously valuable on a min salary.
  4. who gives a [expletive] if they "end up stateside"? we care about prospects, not guys who might get to play in kane county or daytona for a year.
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUJMrzowCQM
  6. so how about that boise game hey? erick leal pitched well!
  7. catcher yohan matos ($270k bonus) is hitting .308/.427/.505/.933 as a 17-year old in the DSL. 18 walks and 21 strikeouts in 27 games.
  8. :x Happens every year on the day of the big league All-Star Game. right, but this year our minor league system is awesome so i don't want them to take a day off. when our best prospects were brett jackson and vitters, no big deal.
  9. fangraphs also did a top 25 midseason update. some of this stuff i think is pretty unlikely - like valbuena "won't be around much longer" or russell pushing castro off SS as soon as next year, or baez likely being shifted to RF. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-25-prospects-a-midseason-update/
  10. in his defense, if you're just going purely on performance, wainwright's run-prevention has basically been as good as kershaw, and he's started 5 more games. of course, wainwright has been extremely lucky this year (lowest BABIP, lowest HR/FB rate and highest LOB% of his career) whereas kershaw's luck has been neutral overall, or he's even been slightly unlucky. if you were picking one to start a must-win game it would obviously be kershaw, but in terms of pure run-prevention and value for the first half, it is a close call.
  11. i can't really think of the last player who has done it, but it would be pretty cool to have schwarber as a LF who then catches once a week. certainly would give some added roster flexibility rather than having to carry a koyie hill/john baker type who do nothing but catch and hit badly when the starting catcher needs a rest.
  12. wonder if zagunis will be going to kane county to play catcher with schwarber leaving for daytona.
  13. daytona's lineup is going to be pretty rad with almora, mckinney, vogelbach and schwarber. (plus fringy prospects like contreras, m hernandez and amaya)
  14. kyle dumps on him for having a sub-700 OPS and he tries to lift his OPS above 700 with one monster game.
  15. almora 4-6 with 2 singles, a double and a home run.
  16. lol wut at the bold he did play some CF in college: http://web.usabaseball.com/article.jsp?ymd=20130319&content_id=42969178&vkey=news_gsa
  17. i don't where this idea comes from. his line in daytona last year was .281/.343/.467/.810. it's fine for a 21 year old in a pitcher's league, but he hit 8 home runs in 55 games. it's not like he's been annihilating each level like bryant has done.
  18. yeah, you can see what the prospect analysts mean when they say he "looks the part" of a prototype major league RF.
  19. well, sabathia's problem probably stems from him carrying 300 lbs for like the past 10 years.
  20. i actually went to b-r and typed in lake to see if he was possibly talking about some other guy with the last name lake. maybe if they think that junior lake is the answer to their hitting woes than we can talk them into edwin jaxon being an answer to any pitching problems they might have.
  21. bryant's home run: http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=34486693&sid=milb
  22. candelario had two doubles as well. would be cool if he or villanueva figures it out, if for no other reason than trade bait.
