  1. as fred posted earlier, babip .171 in the last 30 games Last night he hit some absolute rockets, but all landed in gloves. I hate seeing him on the team, but he does deserve better than his batting average suggests. true, but that still doesn't explain his lack of power this year. Even with a higher BA he'd still have lousy production, especially for a corner OF, due to his poor power.
  2. The question is, how much of Harris' performance this year is a fluke? His BABIP is .363, obviously unsustainable unless he keeps hitting line drives at a 28% rate. PECOTA certainly didn't forecast a season this good out of him. Fontenot's PECOTA has him averaging around a .345 OBP with a .750 OPS over the next five years. If you're going to go with a guy who's got pretty solid offense but a glove that works better at 3B/2B, why not just stick Fontenot there? He can probably do about the same as Harris, and you won't have to give up anything of value.
  3. Seven hits in a game? That's a huge week for him, most of the time.
  4. he's not nearly a good enough hitter to be a viable bat at 1B, but he certainly is good enough to be a backup catcher. Unfortunately Jim has us stuck with Blanco for another year.
  5. A trade...for Greg Maddux..st8 up! state up?
  6. Ouch. :( I'm sure we'll pick up the fourth one at some point.
  7. What's more disgusting? Paying $4M to Izturis or $4M to Eckstein? I'm all for going with Theriot if he's ready. Fontenot can't play SS, can he? He played it a fair amount at Iowa, but he wouldn't be a good-fielding shortstop. Then again, Brendan Harris isn't supposed to be able to play SS, and he's out there every game for the D-Rays.
  8. If my catcher was calling my game with an almost 8 run average, the very least thing i would do would be to punch him in the face and send him to the hospital. or maybe you could actually take responsibility for your own crappy pitching and not blame the guy you're throwing to
  9. Then make room. Murton and Floyd are very tradeable. As someone mentioned, Murton and Floyd shouldn't be hugely worse than Dunn, and the difference in production won't make the price worth it. Plus having Dunn in LF with a staff that includes Rich Hill and Ted Lilly could be pretty scary.
  10. don't forget zambrano, he's got more power than about 80% of his teammates
  11. I'd like to say that I was in Atlanta for the last start by One Pitch Rich, and even though I was sitting 8 rows back from the LF fence, those Braves batters didn't have a clue how to handle his repertiore. Go Rich Go.
  12. Yikes... really, maybe he has figured something out, but I'm afraid he's just AAAA material. Rich Hill had less than a half-season cumulative to show that he belonged with the big club before they finally gave him an extended shot during the second half of last year. Cedeno had a whole year to prove that he could play, and he sucked butt. I've got no confidence in him... maybe if the Cubs fall farther out of it, I'd give him a shot, but for right now I don't want him on this team. In other news, Soto continues to rake, making the Blanco resigning look even more mind-bogglingly stupid.
  13. except for pie, who played like crap his first time up and stopped getting PT
  14. this guy can actually get on base pretty well... meaning the cubs will stop playing him really soon
  15. funny how when murton can't hit for beans, everyone says it's because he's not getting regular playing time... when jones can't hit, it's because he flat-out sucks.
  16. the only laugher here is how wrong that post will be.
  17. Maybe so. But it's pretty tough to be "clutch" when the umps cut your head off and crap down your throat. the cubs got boned last night, but to start heaving blame at the umps is to ignore the fact that the cubs have a bad record because they haven't played well and haven't won close games.
  18. I am negative because I am a Cubs fan. Being a Cubs fan makes me negative. However, it seems that all the "experts" think that the Cubs are the most talented team in the Central. If Lou can get the bullpen straightened out, we have a good chance. I'd disagree because I think the Brewers are more talented than the Cubs. I'm not sure how Lou is gonna get the bullpen straigthened out... he can't throw the ball for them, and they're just not that good in general.
  19. i guess everyone just hates rap
  20. the cubs simply are not good
  21. AAAA players like Hill and Fontenot are doing well
