  1. bruce up and vanished like a fart in the wind
  2. I think Miller to the 60-day is more likely. how about Miller to the "never-ever-ever-pitch-for-the-cubs-again" list
  3. eric patterson promoted; Izturis and Eyre released
  4. lets keep throwing crap against a wall and make bruce say no... guzman hurt
  5. boy i'm feeling great about this kid already
  6. I hope he got traded, but Soriano-Pie-Floyd is certainly a reasonable lineup against a RHP. If Murton were out there instead of Floyd/Jones then I'd know something was up.
  7. Sweet! Here's hoping he keeps a spot in it! I wish him the best of luck, and am excited to see him pitch, but to me this is a short-sighted move. His future is as a starter, and he's never pitched out o f the pen. Plus his peripherals were good but not great so far this year. I'd have much preferred that he be sent to Iowa to start... this is no criticism of Sean or his abilities, but what I think would be best for his future as a Cub.
  8. that's officially my guess. suspending him is quite stupid for the team's sake. As far as I know, they can't just suspend him and add a guy to the 25-man roster, there would have to be another move, and that would punish somebody else for Z's actions, no? Right, but if Zambrano instigated a fight, isn't it stupid not to suspend him for a start? I'd think it would make more sense to give Guzman a start and just go five innings in Zambrano's place, than to call up Gallagher and have to do something with another player. No, I don't believe it would be stupid. It doesn't do the team any good to suspend Z. Well that sure encourages an atmosphere of accountability... punch someone in the face and head out to the mound next time it's your turn

  10. that's officially my guess. me too... i forgot that it was lilly and not Z tonight. Him pitching in Zambrano's spot makes a lot of sense; makes one start and then goes back down. Still, don't they have to do something with Zambrano? Can they put him on some sort of temporary suspension list to open up a spot for Gallagher, or would they have DL somebody?
  11. are you saying this b/c you don't want the cubs to trade one or more of their players or because you don't want hendry to trade one or more of his players? I don't want Gallagher to be traded... he seems to be a good kid, and it's nice having inside info on one of the better prospects in the organization. what makes you think it's gallagher that's going to be traded? didn't he say he was joining the cubs? they wouldn't call him up to trade him. they'd have to put him on the 40 man roster before trading him... but yeah it doesn't make sense to tell him that he's going to pitch in atlanta when he's being rostered just for the purpose of trading him
  12. oh wait lilly is pitching tonight... well then yeah i suppose it could be zambrano. maybe the cubs decided to suspend him for a start because of the barrett incident?
  13. ummmmmmm did you see this part? Sean Doolittle, 1b/lhp, Virginia (NR) Up The presence of Cubs GM Jim Hendry at Virginia's regional this weekend, and new ownership perhaps tightening the purse strings in Chicago, the Cubs could make Doolittle a signability pick at No. 3 overall, despite his talent warranting a spot at their sandwich round pick at 48. isn't it way more likely that they were scouting him for a possible pick at #48? I mean picking him at #3 would be almost absurd. I can't think of a time when a guy who wasn't even projected as a top round pick got selected in the top 5 of a draft. Sometimes teams will reach a little bit, but not that far.
  14. are you saying this b/c you don't want the cubs to trade one or more of their players or because you don't want hendry to trade one or more of his players? I don't want Gallagher to be traded... he seems to be a good kid, and it's nice having inside info on one of the better prospects in the organization. I can't imagine that this is for bullpen help, because Gallagher has never pitched out of the pen. They'd probably go with Rapada, Cherry, Cotts or Pignatiello before Gallagher, if that was what they were looking for. I don't think Lilly has any physical problems. The projected starters in Atlanta are Hill, Lilly, Marquis and Marshall. Hill threw well last time out, and I don't think his blister problem has arisen. So I'm going to guess that either Marquis or Marshall will miss their start, and I'll lean toward guessing Marshall since he gets hurt all the time.
  15. The poster is Gallagher's father I believe... he's been kind enough to give us plenty of information on Sean and his thoughts after several of his starts. We've also been tipped off to previous promotions before they were official, and they've all come through. So I tend to believe this piece of information, though it is very surprising.
  16. at first I thought Iowa Cubs... huh, this is strange. Please don't be a trade, please don't be a trade, please don't be a trade...
  17. I follow how the prospects are doing, but since the big club sucks I'm going to try rooting more for the success of the minor league affiliates. Here's how they're doing so far... Iowa Cobs: 38-26 (best record in the league) PCL American North Iowa 38-26 --- Nashville 36-29 2.5 Omaha 32-33 6.5 Memphis 29-37 10.0 Tennessee Smokies: 33-30 (second place; league has a first half champion) SOU North Huntsville 34-29 --- Tennessee 33-30 1.0 West Tenn 29-36 6.0 Chattanooga 28-37 7.0 Carolina 24-41 11.0 Daytona Cobs: 30-34 (4th place; league has a first half champion) FSL East Brevard County 38-27 --- Palm Beach 33-31 4.5 Vero Beach 31-33 5.5 Daytona 30-34 7.5 Jupiter 30-34 7.5 St. Lucie 27-37 9.5 Peoria Chiefs: 28-29 (5th place; league has a first half champion and wild card) MID Western Beloit 41-23 --- Clinton 39-23 1.0 Cedar Rapids 36-27 4.5 Quad Cities 36-29 5.5 Peoria 30-34 11.0 Burlington 27-37 14.0 Kane County 20-44 21.0 (oof) Wisconsin 19-45 22.0 (double oof) Go Cobs, Smokies, Cobs and Chefs!
  18. I'm going to this game... my first one ever at Turner Field! I am down there for a wedding, so it's an added bonus that I get to see the Cubs, and even a nicer treat to get to see the great Rich Hill in action! Are any of you familiar with the park... is there anything I should eat or try to do while I'm there? And how about afterwards... I think we already have some plans (which don't include the Patrick Ewing mainstay, the Gold Club) afterwards, but if there are any bars in the Atlanta area that you found to be particularly fun, feel free to pass along a name.
  19. if the Cubs are offering Jones, then the Rockies are probably asking the same question.
  20. considering that team's horrendous 242/298/328/627 line, i'm not surprised that no offensive players made it.
  21. They also have more teams than any other division, so they SHOULD have the most wins. The fact that they have the most teams, but only the second most wins, says that they ARE bad. 5 of the 10 worst records in baseball come from the NL Central. Versus the NL East the NL Central is 27-36 (.429) Versus the NL West the NL Central is 24-50! (.324) Versus the AL, the NL Central is 5-10 (.333) So the NL Central versus non-NL Central teams is 56-96 (.368). If that's not bad, I don't know what is.
  22. Kudos to the NL Central for taking up 5 of the top 10 spots in the FL standings... that certainly is some fine work
  23. that noise you hear is the stampede of fantasy baseball owners trying to pick up homer bailey

Houston has also been on fire, aided by a recent ten game hot streak. Washington is slumping and has dropped in the standings, while the Cubs have made up ground. Amazingly, the Cubs and Yankees are tied with the Devil Rays, even though the expected W-L records suggest that the D-Rays should be 10 games higher up in the standings. The eternally lucky Cardinals continue to outperform their expected L-W, while Baltimore has reversed its recent 6 game slump by losing their last four. Colorado is performing poorly, and is in danger of falling out of the race altogether.
