  1. mets trade fernando martinez for jacque jones, a new dinette set, and a year's worth of liberty medical diabetes testing supplies
  2. i know, it's always a sad day when we learn that our heroes are human
  3. But what if they can have our crap-tastic outfielder show up at Shea Stadium ... IN A BRAND NEW CAR! Running out of ideas, why not just start packaging him with various products, like a game show? Like in the Price is Right, when they have the token crappy prize in the Showcase Showdown. except this is more like Let's Make A Deal where Monty Hall is peddling off useless crap yeah, let's put jacque, eyre and izturis behind doors number one, two and three
  4. Sold. And where would Dunn play? Please don't say RF. And please don't say move Soriano to RF for Dunn in LF. So basically don't say anything. kthxbye. I doubt Dunn would be any worse defensively than Floyd has been in right. Floyd is brutal out there. My 2-year-old runs better than Cliffy at this point. I think we should see if under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Floyd is allowed to use a motorized wheelchair when he plays outfield or runs the bases
  5. further evidence for my theory that everyone in baseball is on something
  6. i'm pretty sure that if the mets are looking for a bad outfielder, they can just fiond one for a lot cheaper within their own system
  7. dylan johnston has 9 errors already at boise? what a butcher.
  8. cubs terrible bullpen hasn't been so terrible lately... guess that's what happens when eyre isn't allowed to pitch
  9. hall has been playing better the past few weeks... this will hurt them some, though obviously an injury to someone like prince, braun or hart would be harder to absorb
  10. Possible, but his PECOTA projections are much more optimistic than this. He'll probably be a better hitter than Hill, and he certainly may be a better hitter than Bowen. Given the black hole of offense that is the Cubs' catcher, it really wouldn't hurt to find out.
  11. I'm putting my undefeated NSBB game thread record on the line with this one, as the awesome Cubs face off against the Pirates in the piss-poor city of Pittsburgh! Tonight's starters include a solid ground-ball artist, Jason Marquis: http://www.littleleague.org/media/images/2004MLB_WS/JMarquisLLWSstory.jpg 6-4, 3.31 ERA, 59K/38BB, 1.21 WHIP against Paul Maholm, whose pitching is not nearly as scary as the glare he wears in this photo: http://striketwo.net/mlb/player/hs_430904.jpg 4-11, 4.74 ERA, 63K/30BB, 1.35 WHIP Feel free to win another one, COBS!
  12. these hot dogs must've been smaller.... how could they both eat 10 more than last year?
  13. world series here we come
  14. i'm pretty sure i'll be dead before adam dunn plays for the cubs
  15. (a) the cubs aren't going to get salty, as much as some of you want him (b) soto will probably not get a real chance with the cubs © jim hendry will probably do the dumbest thing possible when it comes to the cubs catching situation
  16. Welcome to the first TruffleShuffle game thread in three years as an NSBB member! Tonight's game pits the fearsome Sean Marshall: http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/9/9a/90px-Sean_Marshall.jpg 4-3, 3.50 ERA, 36K/13BB, 1.23 WHIP versus the unquestionably lame and ugly Jason Bergmann (whoever that is!) http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_456589.jpg 1-5, 3.47 ERA, 47K/23BB, 1.11 WHIP Go Cobs! Take three out of four from these bums, and don't give me a loss in my game thread debut!
  17. I think Koyie and Soto should swap places, and Soto should start. I think Hill is out of options, and he's done a pretty good job catching (including that great play picking Sori's throw against the Sox.) Does anyone think a team will claim him though? i sure hope not, he's worthless AAA roster filler... signed as a minor league free agent. If Hill gets sent down and someone claims him, big damn deal. He sucks.
  18. Chico pitched 6 shutout innings in his last start. He's a rookie who has been inconsistent but he's better than his overall numbers show to this point. I am not surprised that he pitched well. I predicted it. actually based on his WHIP of 1.54 and 13 HRs allowed, his ERA should be worse than it is right now. But I will grant that he's pitched better the past few outings.
  19. None. And Hill should have a pretty long leash, seeing as he's *still* the Cubs second best pitcher this season. You could easily make a case for both Lilly and Marquis being better than Hill this year. But they're all pretty close so any difference between the three is a small one. Marquis has definitely been better after you put this start from Hill in. His ERA is half a run lower. His opponents OPS is probably 70-80 points lower than Hill's. The only thing Hill would have on him is WHIP, which isn't the best indicator when you consider that Hill is a fly ball pitcher who gives up lots of extra base hits and Marquis is a ground ball pitcher who gives up lots of singles. regardless, the cubs' starting rotation has been very good this year. Last year if we were having this conversation, we'd be talking about a bunch of guys with ERAs over 5.00 once you got past Zambrano. If Rich Hill is the Cubs 4th or 5th best starter with an ERA under 4.00 and a good WHIP, I'm fine with that.
  20. maybe uncle larry will spend the all-star break figuring out what 90% of major league baseball knows about rich hill
  21. Yeah, but he is a cub. He should expect that. Ask Kerry Wood, it happens. Zambrano: 5.64 Marquis: 5.63 Marshall: 5.63 Lilly: 4.70 Hill: 3.49 Maybe Hill will have to get used to it, but nobody else on the staff seems to be having this problem with any regularity.
  22. trade for an aging reliever who's having his first good year since 1997
