A league source told the Sun-Sentinel that the Marlins will "definitely" trade Luis Castillo.

Although a report yesterday had the Marlins and Twins in serious discussions, it's believed the Cardinals, Red Sox and Mets are also interested. Dec. 2 - 3:39 am et

Come on, Hendry at least make a good offer.

And the bad news:

In his rumor mill, Tracy Ringolsby of the Rocky Mountain News has a swap of Ivan Rodriguez and Kris Benson as one of the deals to be discussed at the winter meetings.

Rodriguez to the Mets isn't completely new, but there hasn't been a lot of talk of it lately. Ringolsby also reports rumors of the Cardinals and Marlins discussing a trade of Jason Marquis for Juan Pierre and the Cubs looking to acquire Alfonso Soriano and Kevin Mench from the Rangers for Jerome Williams, Corey Patterson, Todd Walker and a prospect, assuming they fail to land Rafael Furcal. The Cubs can't make an offer to the Marlins for Pierre and Castillo? If Castillo gets traded to anyone else, Hendry dropped the ball. Cedeno and Castillo would be great, but I think the Marlins would probably want Cedeno in a trade.

I hope that Texas deal just goes away. That is wayyy too much for those two.

Granted I'm only drawing my theory from media reports, but I don't understand why the Cubs are seemingly OK with trading Jerome Williams. The kid has shown promise, hasn't severely regressed ever in his career, and is still under 25 years of age. Shouldn't this be exactly the type of player we're trying to hold on to?

He severely regressed from 2003 to 2004 (a full run on ERA, though his numbers are similar enough that he possibly just had a somewhat unlucky year)

But I agree with you, williams is my number 4 starter to open the season

why would a Soriano / Mench deal only be worked if we DO NOT get furcal?

I would assume it should be the other way around. Otherwise, Baker will hit Soriano in the lead off spot.
