Does anyone know the teams who are expected to make a run at Millwood?

Cleveland is no New York or Boston, but they're not Kansas City or Tampa, either. They have money to spend, and with the team on the rise, they have an interest in maintaining a sprinkling of veterans to go with their young talent--especially when it comes to the pitching staff.

I would like BOTH free agents Kevin Millwood and Bobby Howry, but I think their is better than a 50% chance that BOTH are re-signed by the Indians.

And I agree with an earlier poster that the Yankees, Red Sox and maybe Angels will bid against themselves for Burnett, he'll get too expensive.

Like everything else this year, the only way to effectively get things done is going to be via the trade. Were I the GM, I'd think of creative trade packages that could interest a team in sending us a starting pitcher.

I know some people here are more in favor of going after Millwood, but I'm with you.

I love the potential reward of signing Burnett, and just imagining how dominant that staff could be. We'd be the talk of baseball, and the staff could easily outperform the 2003 staff. I agree that Wood is in for a big year. Now that his shoulder is cleared up, he has no excuses. Plus, like you mentioned, it's a contract year for him.

If it were up to me, the major priorities would be to keep Nomar, sign Giles, and sign Burnett. I'd then try to swing a trade using a couple of our extra arms to get Bradley or Cameron to play CF.

I think Hendry is dead set on getting Furcal at SS, though. I suppose we'll see. But he seems to be focused on picking up a "prototypical leadoff man."

My scenario would give us the following lineup & rotation

LF - Murton, CF - Bradley or Cameron, RF - Giles, 1B - Lee, 2B - Walker, SS - Nomar, 3B - Ramirez, C - Barrett

SP - Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Burnett, Maddux

Looks pretty formidable to me.. strong lineup and strong staff

it looks like to me looking at that lineup that ramirez is batting seventh?

awesome rotation... looks awesome butt.. what IF burnett has problems and wood does and pror does???

how about going after burnett if not millwood... or ..... matt morris could be a good 4th starter?

Looks to me like he was listing positionally, not the lineup. LF, CF, RF, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, C

ding ding ding!!

Although, looking at it now, outside of ARam hitting 7th, it doesn't look all that crazy that cubs121 would think that... But yea, that was positional. If I had to order that lineup, I'd probably go..

Murton, Walker, Lee, Giles, Ramirez, Garciaparra, Bradley(/Cameron), Barrett

(If it were Cameron, I might switch it up and put Barrett 7th and Cameron 8th)... It's pretty tough to line up though..lots of good hitters.

EDIT - Thinking about it further, if it were Bradley, I might just be tempted to bat him #2 and use Walker as a very good 7th hitter.
