It would be nice to see Theriot and his propensity for the leadoff walk coming to the plate leading-off in the late innings. Or, at least instead of the obligatory Macias late-inning roll out to second base.

That is after he swings at a ball 2 feet outside and another in the dirt.

Infielder Ryan Theriot, the Double-A West Tenn Diamond Jaxx Most Valuable Player in 2005, was promoted to the Cubs on Monday. A native of Baton Rouge, La., Theriot (TARE-ee-oh) batted .304 with 28 doubles and 53 RBIs for West Tenn. He's the third player in Diamond Jaxx history to hit .300 or better for an entire season.

Theriot no longer is a switch hitter, and has been focusing on batting right-handed this season.

"It was just something that needed to be done," he said.

He has played shortstop for the last six weeks.

"It doesn't matter [where I play] as long as I'm out there," he said.

His callup is bittersweet. The West Tenn team is tight, and Theriot didn't want to miss being in the playoffs. But he also didn't want to miss his first trip to the big leagues.

"It's a great group of guys, and we had a wonderful year," he said. "I wish them the best of luck, and wish I could be there. It makes it pretty sweet when you [can come up to the bigs]."

He can't go home just yet. His family in Baton Rouge has taken in some family from New Orleans who lost their homes and businesses because of Hurricane Katrina. Theriot was concerned about the city of Baton Rouge, which has nearly doubled in size because of evacuees.

He's familiar with Cubs second baseman Todd Walker, who played at Lousiana State.

"I watched him growing up," Theriot said of Walker.

Both Theriot and Fontenot are former LSU players, so either would've caused me to say: Geaux Tigers!

What about Todd Walker, doesn't this former Tiger get any love?

He didn't from Baker, getting replaced by Macias

next year's dp call:

"Macias! To Neifi! To Lee! DOUBLE PLAY!"

I doubt it.... in that scenario there would be a dropped ball somewhere or a bad throw or something, and It won't be on the back end of the play.

Then we would see how good Lee really is on defense.

If Baker is coming back why do I get this sinking feeling the 2 boy toys will be too? I don't think I can do this 3 years in a row.

Nah, that's the right call. It's just that Macias will be playing third, Neifi will be in center, and Lee will be backing up the throw home...

If someone is willing to let Perez start he'll be gone.

It may be wishful thinking but I don't believe Macias will be back next year. I haven't looked it up but it seems as though Macias has gotten a lot fewer starts this year than last. Were it not for PH appearances we wouldn't have seen much of Macias. I can't help thinking Baker would like to have someone with more power for PH duties.

Just wanted to give Props to "Riot's" 1st MLB AB. He battled the entire AB and got fooled at the end by a curve. Good showing kid in a tough, pressure packed situation. Hopefully he will get more opportunities but I can honestly say that if Dusty wanted to "set him up for sucess" I wouldn't recommend to send him up to the plate for his 1st AB when a single could win the game in extras.

he gets paid more in the majors too.

And we get numbed by the multi-million dollar contracts, but even 2 weeks of leaugue minimum looks like big money to a young family man like Ryan.

Agreed. Good for Ryan!

Why would he leave when he has a guaranteed starting job here with Baker?

2 weeks at $300K per year looks like big money to me, too.
