We are getting a team here in State College, PA next year that will join the NY-Penn League. The Cubs currently have no affiliate in this league. They have yet to announce which franchise our team will be affiliated with, so I was curious what the odds were that I would get lucky with a Cubs "home team"? Edited by Derwood

At one time the Cubs' short season A team was in the NY-Penn League (Geneva). I believe that was when the rookie league team was in the Appalachian League (Wytheville, then Huntington). I'm guessing that having the team in Boise now is so that the two short-season teams are in the same part of the country. If the proposed minor league restructuring that would eliminate the Arizona Summer League is implemented (I don't know if it's final or not), then it seems to me the Cubs may want to relocate back east for short-season A.

Interesting, The team was supposed to unveil all their team info (colors, nickname, logo, affiliation, etc.) at "the end of the summer", but no news yet.

I'm guessing now that they have to wait for the NY-Penn League playoffs to finish before they can announce anything. Perhaps because affiliations will change with other teams? I know that this happens now and again (Kane County changing from Florida to Oakland, plus AAA teams like Indy, Edmonton and Ottawa all changing recently).

Is there a rule that says that a new team can't make any announcements until a season has concluded?

Firstly, MiLB teams usually sign contracts with Major League teams during the Winter Meetings in Dec., so start worrying if nothing is said by then.

Secondly, there probably is a rule dealing with such things. Just because two MiLB teams are in differnt leagues doesn't mean that they aren't competeing against each other.

And the team is................................the Cardinals! They are relocating the New Jersey Cardinals here to Happy Valley.

I'm so conflicted! On the one hand, i'm thrilled to be getting a minor league team

(in a brand new stadium) just 3 miles from my house. On the other hand, it's the frigging Cardinals!

Do the Pirates or Phillies have an A ball team near by? If not they might swap affiliations in the near future. That's what happened here, The Delmarva Shorebirds were an Expos farm team (With the likes of Vasquez and Barrett) but then switched to Orioles after 1-2 seasons.

The Pirates have a team in the South Atlantic league and *might* want to switch locales so as to generate more fan interest and improve logistics for the farm director.

I believe the Pirates ae in Williamsport in the NY Penn League. And Philly's AAA team (Scranton Wilkes Barre) is close by ad well. Pirates AA is 50 miles away

Well, they decided to go with the State College Spikes. I was pulling for the Furnace personally, but Spikes isn't terrible (considering some of the other options). No logo posted yet.

EDIT: The team website is launched. Uniforms aren't great, but the logos are pretty cool. I'll make the Antler one my avater here soon.

That's a pretty cool logo.

I approve.

Yep, it's not bad. I'm making a trip to the logo store on Friday to pick up a cap and price out jerseys.
