Suppose

1) Neifi is gone (Garciaparra/Cedeno, Furcal/Cedeno)

2) Macias is gone (Fontenot/Greenberg or some other utilityman as #1 PH)

3) Burnitz gone (Giles in)

With a lot of young guys in the lineup, wouldn't he be forced to not make stupid moves and could he use his strengths (managing egos/ interpersonal relations) to do well with this team.

I was just wondering about this, because really having MAcias as the 1st PH always, and starting NEifi were the two biggest complaints. If they were replaced by young/utility guys he couldn't use his toys. Would that change his style?

I don't know if it would help... he'd still place all the blame on the players... it would come down to who he liked best...

And he still wouldn't know how to either fill out the lineup card or manage his starting pitchers or bullpen...

He's just horribly horribly bad at in game management.

Not making mistakes because the bad choices were removed does not make you good at anything.

Doesn't matter if you take away those guys because there will be other crappy veterans brought in to round out the roster and Dusty will just use them.

Dusty would just find new toys if you took these away.

Maybe not. If Hendry tweaks the roster just right he may be forced to play Murton, Cedeno, etc.

But this wouldn't help his in-game managing any.

Dusty will always find new toys.

Jerry Hairston is a prime example. He was clearly in Baker's doghouse for the vast majority of the season. But now that the only other option in left field is a .340 hitting rookie Hairston is all of a sudden one of Baker's boys and in the line-up every day in left.

Unbelievable. Just absolutely unbelievable.

Also, anybody notice that the only who guy got benched for missing signs the other day was the rookie?

Yep. It's sad. I truly think that Dusty has psychological scars from his playing days that will never be healed. Everything is based on his hurt feelings from 20 years ago.

Yet he played regularly at 23 -- and was good. And what young guy took his place on Oakland? Why, budding star Jose Canseco. It's just bizarre....
