Dan McNeil brought it up, and if the Indians keep coming on, he might be proven right:

Do the current Sox, their recent woes, and all of the nonsense excuses they are making ("they stole our signs"; Ozzie's beanball rant) add up to a 04' Cubs-like collapse? Are they showing the same signs?

Personally I can't see them losing the lead in the AL central, but if they manage to fall apart even more than they have it would go down as one of the single worst collapses ever. Especially considering how far up they were, and if you look how far out the Indians were, for them to be even in it is amazing.

The Indians have always had the talent. It just took them a while for the pitching and offense to click at the same time.

The 2004 Cubs never had a 15 game lead in August. This reeks more of the '69 cubs.

Except this collapse will be worse. I think the Sox are going to go 3 and out, if they get in. There was an interesting article in the Tribune about the SOx toxic #, Indians wins and Sox losses to blow the division. That number stands at 39 right now. The magic # is 25.

Edit: I just cheacked mlb.com, indians lost, sox lost. Magic #: 24 Toxic #: 38

I think the Indians have just as good of a shot at the division as they do the wildcard.

And yes, we've had the talent all year, we just havn't had the offense until now.
