"Starting something? The altercation over the weekend between Los Angeles Dodgers teammates Jeff Kent and Milton Bradley — Kent thought Bradley wasn’t hustling and let him know about it — didn’t come as a surprise to Cubs manager Dusty Baker.

But it did make Baker wonder if he might have had a hand in it in that six-degrees-of-separation kind of way because of something that happened when he managed Kent in San Francisco.

“I was just hoping when I read that … the first thing I thought was that I remember asking Jeff to do something like that,” Baker said with a laugh. “I was just hoping that it was something that maybe I didn’t help create.”

So let me get this straight......a player wasn't hustling for SF, and Dusty has a PLAYER go confront him about the lack of hustle?

What an absolute spineless moron.

Sometimes it's easier to take criticisms from co-workers rather than your manager. I would imagine that baseball is no different. Other players are out there on the field just like you. Some bum who sits on the bench telling you to pick-up the pace may not be as effective as your All Star MVP player who is actually busting his ass telling you the same thing.

I want to rip Baker as much as the next guy, but I don't think this is un-common or poor managing.

Confront? Dusty would never use a word like that. Try "jack him up" instead.

Don't you mean, "jack him up... dude." ?

Jeff Kent has always been on guys who don't play the game right. Remember when he was on the same squad with Barry Bonds? There were numerous dugout arguments and close call fistfights. I may not like Kent, but I like that he'll get on guys like Milton Bradley for not running it out.

Of course, Bradley, being the classy guy that he is, decided he was going to upstage Kent later in the game. (at least according to the Score) On a routine fly ball with two outs when Bradley was on base (a time when guys will normally just jog and go through the motions), Bradley decided to sprint as hard as he could around the bases.

All I know is that the Cubs ate almost all of Sosa's contract, what's the big deal if they eat the remainder of Baker's contract and get the fool out of here!!!

We could always pray for the Yankees to not make the playoffs, and then pray that Hendry will take a chance on Torre. It's not very likely at all, and almost certainly will not happen, but it's a nice dream.

Hey, whatever happened to our "Help NSBB buy part of the Cubs" initiative? We need to start buying some Tribune Co. stock as soon as possible.
