I was just listening to the Dan Patrick show, and Peter Gammons was on. He said that if the Yankees don't make the playoffs, Joe Torre's job is in serious jeopardy. My question is, if Torre is fired, would you want him to take Dusty's place next year?

Can we make a trade? That Yankees team is tailor made for Dusty. All veterans when healthy, etc., etc.

I honestly don't think there is a high end market for Dusty. Say what you will about the Yankee front office, but they do have smart people there. It is painfully evident to everyone on earth that Dusty is hypersensitive to criticism. There is no way they would consider Dusty Baker to manage the Yanks into mediocrity.

Heck, there was no market for Baker three years ago. It doesn't appear that the Mets ever had serious interest despite the rumors that existed at the time.

While this may not have been a serious suggestion, I don't see any way that the Yanks would be interested in Baker.

For what it's worth, media types and fans in NY laugh at Baker, and they have since his SF days. Some people think of Dusty and remember lots of regular season wins. NY people remember a guy who was clearly outclassed by Valentine in one series, routinely came up short at the end, always makes tactical mistakes in games, jinxed his team by handing the starting pitcher the ball after a mid inning replacement, failed to calm down his young tired pitcher in game 6 after an emotional play and has basically been a joke of a leader. NY teams take the headline writers very seriously. There is no possible way they take Baker there after the complete choke job his teams have had in recent years.

Perhaps Baker should go manage the D-Rays, where he would be forced to play rookies and would have no public criticism due to the fact that no one there gives two cares about baseball.

If only we could be that lucky. I would personally contribute (and I'm sure a lot of us would) to buying out the last year of Baker's contract if Torre were available.

I would take Torre in two shakes of a lamb's tail.

That said, I feel the same about Joey G.

Yeah, I think I'd prefer the Yanks' bench coach. If it doesn't work, what the heck. If it did work, the Northside gets an institution like Bruce Bochy in SD, or better still, Bobby Cox in Atlanta. Sure would be nice to get a WINNER for once!

I don't think, really. Look at Williams, Rivera, Jeter, etc. None of them would have gotten a shot under Dusty. Stienbrenner is smart enough to not hire Baker.
