I couldn't go to the game today, I had something pop up, but I was able listen to the 1st inning. Brownlie's first pitch of the game was at 87, but that is the only pitch speed Ehlis (I-Cubs radio announcer) said Brownlie struck a guy out without throwing a fastball.

I e-mailed Ehlis to find out how hard he was throwing, but haven't heard anything back yet.

I listened to the first inning of the Iowa Cubs game and heard the same thing you did. Brownlie K'd the guy on a changeup, an "offspeed pitch" and a nice curveball. I don't think anyone knows anything more that that at this point. Hopefully you'll hear back from Ehlis.

I've got to think it would be bigger news if Brownlie were actually throwing in the mid-90s now.

Donald Veal got bumped up to Boise and made the start today, 5 IP, 1 ER, 3/1, and a HR. Not a bad debut by any stretch, imo.

If it makes Navin's job harder, I'm all for it.

By the way, great start today by Nolasco.
