Would a temporary cut in payroll next year before a big push create a situation where the Trib company would be willing to eat the $4 million on Dusty's contract. If that was the case, I'd be confident in the young players to be utilized properly and Hendry could properly evaluate the needs of the team going into 07 once some of the youngsters get some regular PT.

I think the best way to handle the situation with Dusty is to make him want out. Maybe end up having a deal where he gets to leave and the Cubs only pay him a portion of what he is owed.

Good: The Cubs have some really good hitting pitchers.

Bad: The Cubs have some really bad hitting hitters.

Baker is going nowhere until after 2006.

This year is teaching valuable lessons.

I hope Jim Hendry is paying attention.

What's one more year of a contract where we only pay Baker, what is it, $4 million? The Cubs ate far more than that to unload Sosa, so I don't know what's so magic about 2006.

This franchise is getting worse, not better. Leaving Dusty in there for another season only will make the team that much worse.

I certainly can relate to the sentiment of your post, and I agree with it, however, in my opinion, Baker is not leaving until his contract is up.
