Good grief, the Chiefs FINALLY beat the Cougars, 7-4.

But we turn on the broadcast in the bottom of the 9th, and the bases were loaded with no outs.

I think the constant SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS! screaming at Kane County must freak out the Chiefs players.

Gallagher gets his 12th win, tied for league lead.

Bye bye. Bye bye, baseball!

Calvin Murray hits a walkoff HR to leadoff the 9th. Haines blew the save by giving up an unearned run in the 8th. JVB picks up the win in relief.

Woo Chiefs game was great.

I didn't know that that was Luis Riviera's Peoria debut I had just thought i hadn't heard of him. He stopped a screamer with his body, and quickly threw out the runner, and snagged the liner WAY above his head and than quickly doubled off the guy at 2nd. He looked very solid on defense, struck out twice in 3 AB though.

Carlos Bernard hit one to left about a mile high, and I thought it was gone but it was caught at the track. When he came back to the dugout he had the biggest smile on his face, I liked that. His next at bat he hits one, it looked to be not squarely hit. The right fielder moved over a little medium depth I thought it was barely hit so I was watching him to see him catch it, but out of the corner of my eye it somehow dropped over the fence.

Serena refered to the Harvey hit as seeing-eye , it was a swinging bunt that somehow stopped half way between home and third right at the cusp of the grass. I have no Idea how it didn't go foul. He scored all the way from first on ball hit to the wall, didn't know big boy could run that far :)

Patterson's triple was STANDING without a throw to third. he cruised around and the ball was smacked. He looked realy solid on defense as well.

Fuld's home run was a line drive, and he had a couple of great catches including the first out.

Gallagher was pitching in and out of trouble. Twice had 2 on no out, both times got a double play. I know the 2nd he k'd the next, the first time he walked a guy and gave up the 2RBI double.

I HAVE LOTS OF VIDEO!! - will make a new post either later tonight or tomorrow!

Oh yeah, and I had a bad feeling before the bottom of the 9th. Nolen cruised through 2innings. Than walk, hit, walk to start the 9th and bring the tieing run to the plate. Mendez got an infield pop up on the first pitch. Threw a wild pitch to score 1, and walked that batter to bring the winning run to the plate but got a DP.

Bernard was also a player that caught my eye for some reason when I watched Peoria. Didn't do much offensively that night, but I liked his defense. I see he's made quite a few errors this year, however. He's quickly becoming the everyday guy for Peoria...Rick is just..bad.

Hey Brian, thank you for the report!

The Zooperstars were at the game tonight! You need to get a Q&A with Harry Canary. :D

I love the Zooperstars! You know, a Q & A with Harry Canary would be pretty amusing. I may have to see what I can do...

O’TOOLE’S BLAST KEYS 2-0 DAYTONA WIN

Cubs Left Fielder Paul O’Toole Belted A 2-Run Sixth Inning Bomb That Guided Daytona To The Game 3 Victory

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—The storyline on Thursday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark was supposed to be a classic tale of a Florida State League pitcher’s duel, but apparently Paul O’Toole had other ideas.

In Game 3 of a four-game series against the Clearwater Threshers, Daytona’s soft spoken left fielder let his bat do the talking. O’Toole went 2-for-3 with a single and a two-run homerun as he lead the Cubs to the victory by a final of 2-0.

That’s all the offensive that Cubs starter Juan Mateo (8-5) would need, as the righty went 6.2 innings and gave up just four hits in the shutout effort for his eighth win of the season.

Clearwater starter Scott Mathieson (2-5) also pitched well in eight full innings as he coughed up just two earned runs on five hits and struck out seven batters, but he was charged with his fifth loss.

Also making a statement on the mound for the third straight night was the Daytona bullpen. Righty Lee Gwaltney and southpaw Clay Rapada combined to retire the final seven batters in order to seal the deal for the boys in blue.

Rapada recorded his second save in as many nights and now has four on the season for Daytona, as he has settled nicely into the closer’s role with Nate Sevier on the DL.

With the win, the Cubs have now won four straight for the first time since they reeled off five straight victories back on June 13, as they improved to 17-22 on the second half of the season. After the tough loss, Clearwater has now dropped three straight as they fall to 14-25.

The series finale between the two squads is set for Friday at “The Jack” as the Cubs send crafty left-hander J.R. Mathes (8-5, 3.26 ERA) to the hill to face Threshers lefty Keith Ramsey (1-2, 4.56 ERA).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST.

Nathan said "he couldn't have rolled it out there better if he tried."

They turned 5 double plays today, including the game ender. You can't argue with that.

Fuld's home run was a line drive, and he had a couple of great catches including the first out.

Sam Fuld rocks!

Gallagher was pitching in and out of trouble. Twice had 2 on no out, both times got a double play. I know the 2nd he k'd the next, the first time he walked a guy and gave up the 2RBI double.

He's usually really good at minizing damage. He's hard to hit; he gets into trouble with errors and walks. ...and... He won again!

Chiefs are now 4-11 vs the Cougars.

In games that Gallagher has started, Chiefs are now 3-1 vs the Cougars.

The first hit he gave up of the game was the 2RBI double DOH. After 2 walks and a HBP (with a DP in the middle). The HBP was a grazing of the guys helmet with someting VERY off-speed, the guy probably barely felt it (looked like he ducked down and into it )

Boise Report

The box scores have already been posted, so I will just give my impressions.

The Good-

1) Johnny Defendis - 3-5 (all singles). He has a good eye at the plate and all three hits were hit well. I would like to see him pull the ball though. But I notice that he has only played in 14 games (late signing?) so maybe he is just working on his timing.

2) Chris Gaskin 2-4 (single, double). Last night he was hitting everything down the right field line, but it was slicing foul. Tonight he was pulling the ball down the left field line with greater success. A big man who plays a decent, if not spectacular, firstbase.

3) Kyle Reynolds - 1-3 (single). A mark of success for a hitter is when the opposing team pitches around you. That is what SK was doing (2 walks). Kyle continued to impress me with his defense at second. Quick reflexes, a strong accurate arm, intelligent. I think that he would be at Peoria, but for the fact that someone is blocking his way. On a side note Kyle's wife was at the game and sat right behind me. She seemed like a nice young lady.

4) Jesus Valdez - 3-5(all singles). In my mind not the prospect that Gregg and Defendis are, but he had a nice night. Three solid singles and showed a decent arm for a left fielder.

5) Mark Reed - 2-5 (singles). A very good bunter. Both singles were excellently placed. Good speed for a catcher. And while he is not in Muyco's league, he showed enough defensive skills to convince me that he can make it as a catcher. Gunned down a basestealer with a strong accurate throw.

The Bad -

1) Davy Gregg. Last night all he did was bunt. Tonight all he did was hit lazy fly balls. The Cubs must have him working on differnet approaches to hitting.

2) Boise baserunning - Several were caught stealing. Though the SK catcher had a good arm.

The Ugly -

1) Boise pitching. The starter, Micheal Hyle, had control issues. when he fell behind he was forced to lay one in there and paid the price. Koerber looked good in long relief and allowed the Hawks to get back in the game, but the rest... BTW Maybe a minor league guru can answer this. Ryan Chambers...Does he throw a knuckle ball?? Whatever he was throwing had the SK hitters looking like idiots on one pitch, but then they would spank it on the next. He was also very wild.

On a side note - Grady Little will be at Friday's game to sign autographs and, I assume, to do some scouting too.
