This statement is not based solely on last night's play: Sometimes I think Michael barret might not be the smartest baseball player out there. He does so many things that irk me, things that smart players don't do. Last night was just the latest example.

As for Remlinger, he should be DFA'd immediately. It's one thing to be completely incapable of getting anyone out. It's another thing to be completely incapable of getting anyone out AND have your head so far up your keister that you make the SAME mental error that's already cost your team earlier in the game.

If I had been Dusty, I would have pulled a Bobby Cox/Andruw Jones and pulled Rem from the game immediately for that. It's inexcusable to begin with. Factor in it had already happened in the game, and it's unforgiveable.

ESCPECIALLY for the guy who is supposed to be the veteran LEADER of the bullpen. if it were Ohman or Wuertz, or a really young guy, I'd get *ed and expect them to not do it again. But Remilinger knows better. He's got to be setting the right example out there, not acting like a rookie himself.

another thing worth noting...

young or old, the four guys that screwed up the worst last night are considered four of dusty's 'guys'. and, at least as far as i can tell, he hasn't really called them out in the media.

on the other hand, when hairston missed signs earlier in the season, the media knew all about it. same when cedeno missed a sign on that bunt and run over the weekend. and dusty was never shy about discussing dubois' defensive shortcomings to the media.

there are just certain guys that dusty likes, and i don't know if he's ever gonna get on one of his guys, publicly or privately.
