When Wood pitched in the playoffs in 2003 and looked unbelievable. I told myself the Cubs HAVE to sign this guy long term. He was throwing heat and had a nasty hook. Even with all of the pressure one thing looked different: he body stayed together during the windup and his mechanics incredibly comapct. Why can't he do that again? When Wood throws against his body he doesn't open up his hips and shoulders enough. He doesn't point his left foot toward homeplate. Granted this is hard, but when I pitch I like to have my left foot aimed directly at home plate and my right foot headed in that direction too. THis is hard to do on the mound, but that is how I pitch. So is that Wood's problem, he needs to open his hips up more so he doesnt throw against his body?
