do you really think the cubs would want to own up to trading sammy sosa for mike fontenot?

Considering the buzz around DC is that some fans want to place Sosa on waivers, I'm not sure it really matters. I think I also heard one of the Around the Horn or PTI guys mention something about Baltimore should do just that. I am sure it was an opinion, not a scoop.

It's pretty clear that we would have accepted a trade of sand for sammy sosa and he would've been gone.

If you're going to cut someone loose, it should be Macias.

 

Will people lay off Macias? I mean, he's hit .287, and is pretty good off the bench. He's filling in his role pretty damn good if I say so myself.

 

I agree, the guy is a BENCH PLAYER. How good does a BENCH PLAYER have to be? The guy hits .287, can play a bunch of positions in a pinch, there's a lot more to worry about on this team than Jose Freaking Macias.

IIRC, don't most teams put a lot of guys on waivers after the trade deadline with no intention of making a trade but possibly hoping to slip another player through?

i think most people don't have a real problem with macias, they have a problem with how he is used. he can play many positions but he should not be a top pinch hitter off the bench, he should not a be long term fillin at any position. he should not have to get his at bats over other players. he should play when needed to spell a player.

he was sammy replacement last year instead of giving dubois a shot. he was walker replacement to start. he was also neifi replacement instead of cedeno. how many times he did play outfield instead of dubois or hairston this year? if you are platooning players they really don't need to be spelled! i would have rather see hairston,dubois and holla hit off any pitcher at any time instead of macias...screw the righty-lefty crap!
