I'm not someone who knows how to go figure out all these splits...but is it just me or does it seem as if we have to be absolutely the worst team in MLB in scoring runs in this situation? Does anyone know these numbers?

I don't know where to find that stat, but I'm just going to guess and say that you(we) think we do it more than other teams because we watch the Cubs a lot more and we notice that kind of stuff.

Of course, I could be wrong. I hope I'm not, though.

Possibly that we watch them more...or that I've seen Walker alone do it at least 3 times in the last 3 games. I'd think you should be able to get them in over 60% of the time...I'd say we do it less than 50%...just a guess.

Walker is 3-7 with 6 RBI in that situation. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/splits?statsId=5700&type=batting&year=2005

As a team, the Cubs are hitting .270 with a .795 OPS with runners in scoring position.

Why is Hollandsworth even at the plate in the first place? You'd think after Murton's success thus far, Holly would be strictly coming off the bench.

They are terrible at this.

But Hey, didn't you know a strikeout is just another out. Who cares about strikeouts.

Make freakin contact.. :?

that was nothing short of pathetic.... :(

True...but it was also almost expected...seriously...someone in the game thread said it, but it deserves mentioning again...how freakin bad is Holly right now that they pitch to him with 1 out and a guy on 3rd...yet intentionally walk Ronny with two outs?

Do we have a kangaroo court (to match our kangaroo manager), in which each of these guys gets fined for not getting the runner home from 3rd...

I've been in a meeting all day...I come back to see us with a guy on third...less than 2 out...and yes...we fail to score again.

Out of curiousity I wanted to check Hollandsworth & Perez's statistics this year in runner on 3rd, < 2 out situations:

Hollandsworth 11 7 5 0 0 0 10 1 0 2 1 0 .455 .429 .455 .884

Perez 12 11 1 0 0 0 7 0 0 1 0 0 .083 .067 .083 .150

I'm not at all surprised by Perez, but Holly actually has pretty good stats here.

Hey good old Holly screws up again. Why does Dusty continue to put this guy out there? I cannot stand to watch him manage games. I would have put Macias out there because at least he has made contact more lately than Hollandsworthless. Dusty has a problem with thinking he is smarter than all the fans so he trots the same guy out over and over so when the guy FINALLY does something good Dusty can say see I told you so.

While I'm sure he's capable of doing it....How does Perez have a lower obp than batting average?

The Cubs aren't that bad in the "clutch" overall. Their main problem is not getting runners in scoring position very often, so that the one or two times a game it happens, if they don't score it sticks out more.

Sac flies count against the OBP but not against BA.

For the year, league averages:

With a runner at 3rd, 0 outs, teams score at least 1 run 83.8% of the time

3rd w/ 1 out , teams score at least 1 run 66.5% of the time

I know it was the bottom of the order...but this is at least the 3rd day in a row which we've had a man on 3rd, less than 2 outs...and didn't get him home.
