July 20 - Someone else referenced why the lineup was tinkered with and I agree. If you want to get Gerut ABs, put him in left. I don't think it's a coincidence that the offense has been revved up since Hairston took over in the leadoff spot for Corey and Walker was (FINALLY) moved into the 2 hole.

Furthermore, all we read after Gerut was acquired was how he can play CF etc., yet he puts Burnitz there and Gerut in RF. With the game still in doubt late, he leaves Burnitz in CF and Gerut in RF instead of inserting the faster Hairston (who would have easily gotten to that ball Griffey hit in the 8th) and moving Burnitz to RF. Gerut had already batted in the 8th so it wouldn't have affected the offense at least until the 10th.

Someone shoot me now.

There's a Dusty's bad Managerial Moves thread about 4 threads down on this page. I don't think we need another thread.

that's why i added (new) to the end of the thread name. the other is 71 pages long and has turned into more of a discussion than documentation of DB's bonehead decisions.

Everyone knows I'm up for a little Dusty bashing any time I'm motivated to care any more, but there really is no point any more.

Everyone knows he's a horrible in-game manager. He can only fill out the right lineup when it's so obvious there are no other valid lineups. He only knows how to handle a pitching staff when the starters go 7 or 8 innings, and even then it would be safer if they went 9.

The only hope for the Cubs this year is if their offense can get so hot that it doesn't matter who's in the game at any time, or how many runs the bullpen gives up... because if we have to depend on decisions by Dusty, it's not going to happen.

That said, I dread watching the Cubs in the playoffs (as much as I hope to seem them there) because Dusty will continue to make his unfathomable decisions, and it will be that much more depressing.

how many different lineups has he used this season? barrett hits 8th last night, 5th today, probably 7th tomorrow and 6th the next day. burnitz goes between 4th and 5th 3 times a week.

I know this has been mentioned repetitively, but Dusty's refusal to play kids is hurting this franchise.

His big excuse is that we are in a playoff race... but guess what so is Atlanta and New york. Year after year, Atlanta and New York are in the playoffs, yet Cox and Torre always find a way to develope talented young players while they continue to contend.

I was wondering if Cox and/or Torre run a managing clinic, perhaps we can send Baker there in the offseason. Better yet, lets save the cost of tuition and just hire some of their assistants -- Joe Girardi and/or Fredi Gonzalez.
