Just as in years past Cubs fans like myself see that the Cubs lose and the very next question is "How did Sosa Do?"

Now it's happening again with D Lee.

The Cubs Loss last night was softened knowing that D Lee hit a hr.

Does anyone else find this wrong?

Even the fact that Wood left the game in the 3rd was secondary to D. Lee's batting.

The thing about Lee is that he is a great guy on top of having this mind blowing year. He is charitable, polite, warm and sincere. Now, I've done my share of defending Sosa as much of the hate showered on him is ridiculous. Sosa had his moments, such as those surrounding the 1998 homerun chase, carrying the flag around the bases after his first post-9/11 homer, etc. But, Lee is the kind of person who isn't flashy, but is quietly philanthropic seemingly consistantly throughout his life.

I am happy for Lee. He is a testament that good guys can finish first. That freaking Pujols scares me, though.

I certainly didn't mean that D. Lee was falling in to a Sosa like personna. I was mearly noticing that when the Cubs lose I check to see what D. Lee did in the game and try to see a positive.

The pattern is based on what Sosa did for the year post '98 and how the fans typically reacted to the Cubs and Sosa.

At times it was "How did Sosa do... and oh yeah did the Cubs win?"

It's not that Wood's injury was secondary it's the fact that it always happens to the point where it is a routine now.

I don't think it's a bad thing for people to be curious about DLee's performance when looking over the scoreboard. In regards to the '98 season I don't see the problem with that either. In '98 Sosa was in the middle of a HR race and people wanted to keep up with that. DLee is currently making a run at the Triple Crown. With that being said I have no issues with people asking how he did after a game.

In regards to DLee vs Wood I personally can't see how anyone that is a Cub fan would put Lee hitting a HR over Wood leaving the game.

Personally I always look to see how the team did first if I wasn't able to see the game.

The box score to me is secondary and when I do glance at it, I always look to see who pitched and how well they did and often look and see if any of the batters left a ton of guys on base. Then I usually read the "recaps" of the game to see how it all happened and make sure nobody got hurt.

Very very rarely do I look at any one person's stats specifically - don't care if it's Macias, D. Lee or Sosa during his season.

A season is a failed season in my mind if the team doesn't make it to the playoffs - any individual performances above and beyond that (even extraordinary ones) fall a very low second to me and only soften the blow of not making the playoffs slightly.

I think my reaction was about the same for both events -- "so, what else is new?".

I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but me personally, I didn't care Lee hit a HR cuz the Cubs lost and lost a game in the WC. Then you throw in the fact that Wood seemingly is hurt again, and no, I personally could care less that Lee hit a HR, since the Cubs lost.
