It's not Neifi who's unlucky; it's Cub fans that are unlucky to have Baker as a manager.

lol, damn. I was thinking of that when I saw the thread about Neifi was unlucky, and I was going to type exactly that.

What exactly would you want Dusty to say, "Neifi is quite honestly the worst starting shortstop in the majors right now, I'm only starting him because my other option is a rookie...." What Dusty said is one of the main reasons he is known as a player's manager - shows confidence and tries to keep things positive.

I don't recall seeing any comments like this during Dubois's stint as starting LF, or during Patterson's slide.

Good point, Corey and Jason are not amongst Dusty's favorites. Neifi is.

Neifi's line since April 25th: .231/.256/.321

Compared to an average hitter he's cost the Cubs a win and a half in that time. Even compared to Joe-Schmo replacement fodder he's cost the Cubs half a game. His last few games cemented his place as the worst hitter on the team this year, even after his ridiculously successful start. (Yes, even worse than Corey.) My point: Neifi's bad, but Baker's right in that Perez is probably better than the numbers of the last couple of months would indicate. (Not much better, mind you, but it's at least something.)

That being said, I agree with Cali: The sooner we relegate Neifi to the bench the better off this team will be. Even if Ronny doesn't do any better than Neifi it's pretty much statistically impossible for him to do worse.

I was thinking the same thing when I read the posting title.

The thing that is so frustrating is that I was so psyched when they signed Dusty. What a disappointment.
